difference between 401 nailheads?

I'm considering purchasing a rebuilt 62 401 Nailhead to drop into my 66 Skylark. How much have the nailheads changed over the years? Are there any particular years to avoid or are they all pretty much the same?

    Thanks!

i know that 63 and older cranks have to be machined to fit 64,65,66,trans assembys:grin:

Is that due to the change from Dynaflow to the ST 400? I've been looking for a donor car for my '64 Riv. My bottom end is wasted. I was considering a '63 401 out of a Riv in a salvage yard.

I'd stick with the 64-5-6. My opinion of course. Ethan, you will spend a tidy sum getting all the bits necessary to put that nailhead in a Skylark.

Have you considered the 455 route?

Actually I am more likely to go the 455 route. The rebuilt 401 that I saw on eBay has already sold... that's okay though, it looks like the 455 route would be less expensive anyways.

I've been looking around for a decent rebuilt 455, but everything seems to be out of my price range. I need to save my pennies for a TH400 and a new rear end. $$$!!
