    Sup peeps...

    I took the family to see cars 2 today. I thought id just post a quick note on here that it was a ok movie...... well sept for the part where Mater recognizes the villains motor as being a aluminum v8 "one of the worse motors ever built" he says. The villain happens to be a Rover too :/ But yeah it was still a ok movie.

    I'm taking my son tonight to see the film - he has been looking forward to seeing it for a long time. He is wearing his Cars 2 t-shirt and I will be wearing my BQUICK GSX t-shirt:grin:

    The worst engine ever, has to be; the Crossley brazed tin engine block. Yes. I said; brazed tin!

    My son loved the film as well. The racing scenes were great in the film. Surprised at how many times the bad guys were saying they would "kill" the heroes in a kids film but otherwise I thought it was very enjoyable.

    Yup! I have seen photos of these, but never a real one. Crosley also had an overhead cam engine that wasn't very reliable either. Perhaps it was even the same engine.

    Buick engineering's dogged insistence on keeping the "vertical valve cover look" for the 215 meant one less head bolt at top of cyl...dare I say it...Olds 215 was better. Most remaining shortcomings had more to do with service not understanding how to work on aluminum...removing/installing plugs in hot engine stripped threads...especially w/impact wrench:shock: Not protecting bolts from galvanic action on reassembly...more stripped threads. Not keeping cooling system anti-corrosion "fresh" ate aluminum and plugged system. And let's not talk about the air-cooled automatic trans with tissue-paper clutch plates that could be destroyed by simply stalling the converter...by comparison, early '60s full-size were most reliable Buicks...

    I'm not sure. But, I belive this to be the brazed tin engine;

    Reckon, that's; an overhead cam?

    Yup! I think that the round thing that the guy has his left hand on is the cam drive shaft.

    I think, I remember reading; worm gear drive on the cam....... So, that looks about right to me.........

    Actually, I think it's a cover over the cam drive shaft. That's wierd - a shaft driving a shaft.

    I knew, you meant; that.
    I would, like to see one of; those engines. It is very different.

    Worst engine, who are they kidding. I had one brand new in '62 and have a stroked one now. For a weight to HP ratio they hard to beat. Never ever have I had a problem with one. They were just way ahead of their time.

    Yup. We had one donated to the school. It was a georgeous Caddy. I tried to buy it even though the engine was junk - complete with a hole in the side of the block. The school refused to sell it to me for a variety of reasons - some of them sound. Building an engine with an aluminum block and cast Iron heads seems to me to be doing things backwards. Kinda typical of GM in that era.

    Actually, the V8-6-4 was the iron 368 that was part of the 500/472/425 family. Other than the cylinder deactivation system it was a good engine. The 4100 was the new aluminum block iron head 'digital fuel injection' idea that had many problems including electrolysis eating away at the aluminum. Apparently they fixed its weak links because that engine became the 4.5l and then the 4.9l that was used until 95.

    "Other then the cylinder deactivation system" is similar to saying "other then the fact that he was responsible for the deaths of about 55,000,000 people, Hitler was a good guy. The 8-6-4 system was way ahead of the technology of the day. The 4100cc engine was one of the worst engines of all time.
