I need to know if Buick 350 and 455 distribitors interchange. I'm rebuilding a 455 for my '71 GS and when I checked the id numbers on the HEI that came with it they were for a '77 Buick 350. What's the facts? o No:
Jim, it's possible someone used a 350 distributor in the 455 by using the 455 gear (the only big difference between the two). The 350 used a gear with 14 teeth, the 455 was 13. The distributors can be used in both engines as long as the correct gear is used also. Devon
Thanks Devon That is what I needed to know. How many recomend using a bronze gear then? Is there any benifit on street driven mildly modifide engines? That's one nice Wildcat!
Thanks, Jimmy! I used to use the bronze gear because I was running a hi-vol oil pump back in the '80's. Since then we've learned to keep away from the hi-vol job. I switched back to an iron gear once I went back to the stock pump w/booster plate...no problems at all! Devon
Thanks again. Sorry to hear about your loss of employment. "The whole automotive industry seems to be in the tolet just waiting for someone to flush." acording to my automotive machine shop buddy. I'm very fortunate that the pickup truck parts business is doing fine. Hey you want to move to Denver and sell used parts?
You never know, Jim...I may have to take you up on that! I appreciate the kindness. At the moment I'm fanning through years of great customers and ex-coworkers to get the word out, including every online method possible. Keep us posted on the 455 progress! Devon
Buick Fan Hi,just to set the record straight,Buick in 77 did not make the 455 anymore, so in that year all you could get was a distributor from a 350.And like he said all you have to do is change the gear. The 455 gear would be very sloppy in a 350 an a 350 gear will not go in to a 455,anyway.BrunoD.
