I just installed my heads (455) using the ARP assy lube furnished with the new bolts. After I finished torqueing them I found that my assy. manual says to use "perfect seal". Do the head bolts go into water jackets? If so what should I do at this point? Do I need to remove the bolts and use a thread sealer? Will the ARP assy. lube keep them from sealing?
Boy do I feel ignorant right now.:Dou:
Tell me what to do guys.

Randy - I can't imagine that ARP would steer you wrong. You should contact them and ask...I think the lube they give you assures the correct torque values by providing the proper friction on the threads. Nothing else should be needed.

A little 30w oil and you will be fine, just a drop or two, trust me....

Yea,i used 30w oil on the threads and moly lube on the washer top and bottom only.

    Thanks

Just thought I'd add... the torque specs are different depending on the lube used!:Smarty:

yea they are different,i think i went 100 ft. lbs on the large head bolts and 90 on the little ones.

    Thanks

I think what Jeff was trying to say was that the "friction coefficient" is different depending on what type of lube you use. This will change your torque values.

Actually when using Oil, the 3 center bolts (in the valve cover) are torqued to 110lbs, while all the other are to 100lbs..... they need to be done in order too...... torque specs / instuctions are availible on TA's website.

Thanks Jude, that's exactly what I was trying to say! Moly lube is MUCH SLIPPIER than 30w engine oil, and DRAMATICALLY LOWERS the torque spec! I think somewhere in the range of at least 10%.:Do No:

I used ARP's specs that came with their parts.:)
