Do you like the look of 17s on front and 18s on the rear on an Abody?

I am trying to decide if I like the look of this on my Skylark convertible or just stick with 17s all the way around?

Please let me know what you think.

17's is the limit I'd go on an A-body. Any bigger and they start looking like Hot Wheels cars.

18's actually look good with the right drop/tire size

but the same tire sizes in 17s are dirt cheap!

so, my vote is 17s all around

    two good combos

    17x8 front with 245-45-17 and 17x9 rear with 275-40-17

    or
    17x9.5 fronts with 275-40-17 and 17x11 with 315-35-17!

widesnt tire with no to minumal mods would be a 335-35-17 but you'd havew to get the BS down just right

12in wide rims require wheel tub and possibly frame notching..

Ed, This spring take my wheels and put them on your car and see if you like them.

ps, quite a few bmw rims fit on our buicks!

so plently of possibly cheap/used rims out there

summit legend series are nice and still on the cheap side

My problem with 17s is finding a good sized tire. I would like to see some tires that are 8-9" wide but 27 or 28" tall. Everything that is available is too short.

I just wish someone would make an affordable 17" or 18" version of the Buick ralley wheel.

I have 17x7 TTII's on the front and 18x8 1/2's on the rear. 225 45 17 on the front and 275 40 18 on the rear. It looks good I think.

    Ed,

Are you planning on lowering the car or leaving it stock height? IMO that makes a big difference?

yea I hear that, but that's where the lowering comes in

Whatever you choose, make sure you run a tall enough tire to tuck some rubber under the fender and quarter a bit otherwise it doesnt look right.

I have 245/45/17 fronts and 275/40/17 rears, and i would go much higher aspect ratio if i did it again.

Atleast a 50 ratio, both front and rear.

Stock height and I have 235/60/15 (26 inch) up front and 255/60/15 (27 inch) in the back. I can fit 275/60/15 (MT street radial)in the rear on a factory Buick rim.

    I could go 225/50/17 front (26 INCH) 255-50-17 rear (27 inch) or 265/40/18 (26.70)

I think I may need to change out the rear springs. I have wagon springs in the back now and has a rake to it.

Heres a pick of the car.

Did you cut the rear coils to lower the rear?

John's car is gorgeous, especially in person. IT's got the perfect stance and a great wheel and tire combo.

I think its all in the stance. I personally love the 17-18 look with the right stance. Lower isn't always better IMO, but too high looks "detached" to me. Im plannin on a pro-tour look with my 72, so long story short, I dig it! :beer

Here is one of my 69 with 17's but not lowered, and another after I put 2 inch drop coils in the front.
