That is true,,,, but it is a minimal amount,,,, and the closed secondary keeps it from being a problem..... and when the secondary opens up , the engine is in the upper rpm ranges and the gap doesnt matter at that point..... at least my engines dont seem to mind .....:laugh: :laugh:
I agree, it's a small price to pay. Many "mild" aftermarket and OEM 180 manifolds have a notch in the primary divider just to balance idle - just don't take it down too far.
actually ,,, even with the 3 barrel carbs you can make the spacer to have a ''toung'' that comes from the back of the carb to just shy of the center pivot point of the secondary carb plate and that absolutely minimizes the secondary gap.....:Brow: naturally you dont have to do that to a sq. bore or spread bore carb.... just make the spacer with a center divider like the manifold....
Having trouble visualizing this. A plate to separate left and right can't be any bigger than a rectangle same width and length as the secondary plate, same depth as the spacer, with a 1/2 circle cut out to allow the throttle to rotate. This hole is smaller than a simple notch, but it's always open.
