Newly acquired 69 Skylark has 350 Chevy engine and the seller told me that the AC box will not fit on the firewall bec. the Chevy engine is bigger than the Buick 350 that was in there before (there is now a plate screwed in. Any truth to that? Also, does anyone reproduce the AC box that attaches to the firewall and holds the ac lines, blower motor, etc.? I saw there was one available for the Chevelle (I think it was Year One), is that the same piece?

I can't see that. Chevy's are 60* and Buick 350's are 90*... there for Buick 350's are wider. I doubt if the box is different for a Chevelle of the same year anyway. I don't know this for fact though. :Do No:

The Chevy is smaller than the Buick motor. Nowhere near as wide as the Buick.

The A/C should fit fine, the standard A/C box should fit fine.

I say this because I put a (*gasp*) SBC 327 in my 72 for a short while. I had no problems with the A/C box at all.

Of course I dont know everything...maybe there is something with the 68-69 models that is different?

The SBC is a 90 engine. Maybe you were thinking of Chevy's 60 V6.

AFAIK the a/c box is the same for all the GM A body cars. You will need the Chevelle compressor bracket, lines and hoses. There will probably be an issue with the lines connecting to the Buick Condenser coil. You'll want to use the Chevelle condenser but it will probably take a little finagling to install it into the Buick.

Actually, (for the time being) I am just interested in getting the blower fan in the dash working, since there is currently a plate screwed on the firewall to cover up the holes. Once I get the blower motor, which color wires would need to be hooked up once the blower motor is installed?

Also, is this the piece that would fit on the firewall?

    Here's the wiring diagram...[IMG]

Year One part number EB680 is the part that fits on the firewall. I bet you could get a nice original for less money that would look and fit better. Try the parts wanted section of this site. I might even have an extra box. It's strange that Year One only lists that part for the Chevelle. I don't know for sure about the fender side portion of the box but I have the engine side portion of the box from a Chevelle on my Skylark.

Does installing that box with the evaporator and blower motor, etc. require any removal from inside the car, or is it all done under the hood?

all under the hood but the inner fender needs to come off.
