I looking to spray my 1971 grill. It is currently gray, does anyone know what spray would be the exact color??
Grill should be a charcoal or argent gray on the small squares, Silver on the horizontal bars, and a satin black in all recessed areas including connecting bars. try and use lacquer as it dries quicker and is better for plastic. You have to do alot of taping and masking and there are alot of steps. Very time consuming process. Check out some of the threads on 71 grille differences as Tim R has some good pictures of painted 71 grilles.
When I did my 71 way back when I used a gray (sorry don't remember) for the small squares area. Once that was dry masked that off and used plastikote dull aluminum lacquer to spray the grille (this seemed the easiest way to mask the project-pretty simple). Once you peel tape off you now have the gray and silver done. Then I sprayed the black using plastikote hot rod black (also lacquer). There isn't much to spray and you could paint the black easily enough with a brush as well. Looks good and has lasted 15+ years now. Website has nice pic under reproduction parts page. We are assuming GS grille here. later Tim
Take a look at this thread http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=96335 There is a picture of what Dark Agent looks like. Also says you can get it in plasti-kote product cc 9091 , charcoal pearl m , in a small rattle can.
Thanks guys, My 71 has the regulat Skylark grill, not GS, so no little squares. But unless years have worn the colors, it looks like I could use a pint brush for the black recessed areas, but all the rest is gray, no silver. Just want to use the correct gray, otherwise it'll stick out like a sore thumb.
