Does my SP 400 need a Carter Carb to operate the SP?

Hey gang, I recently found out that I am the proud owner of a SP 400 in my '67 LeSabre 400 (with thanks to the guys on this site). The last owner replaced the Carter carb with an Edelbrock carb (only god knows why) And there is no place to hook up the Switch Pitch to. Can a Rochester be used? I have a Q-Jet from a 69 LeSabre 400 and I'm not sure if that can be hooked up to it. I'd rather just use my Q-Jet as the Edelbrock on the car now seems to be having problems as of late.

    Patrick,
I believe you need the specific Carter carb to activate the throttle switch(Are the throttle switches still there??) BUT, you do not need them for the switch pitch to operate. You can operate it manually. The switch pitch function is very simple. There are two contacts on the drivers side of the transmission. The vertical one is the kickdown, the horizontal one is the switch pitch. When you apply 12 volts to the switch pitch contact, the converter goes to high stall. Take the 12 volts away, you get low stall. Simply wire up a toggleswitch, or pushbutton switch. One side goes to a 12 volt switched source (fuseblock), the other side goes to the transmission contact.

Cool I'm gonna get a toggle switch for it this weekend. Yeah its just sitting on the block next to carb.
