Hello, Im fairly new here, and really pretty ignorant to carbs and such. I had my car apart for a little work which took some time. Now with everything hooked up, I cannot seem to get fuel to come through the fuel pump into the carb. Not a single drop, so basically my car wont start now that she is back together.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Kevin - Welcome!

What kind of car is it and what kind of fuel pump are you using?

What kind of work/repairs were you doing?

How long was it laid up?

    Sorry Bill,

I have a 72 lark. I had her laid up since late Nov, to which I had the heads rebuilt and I also put in a ta intake. I have a set of headers and exhaust system to go on next (as soon as I can drive her to the exhaust shop) followed by an 800cfm carb.

The car currently has the stock 750 on it, (its a holley reman that is not in the best of shape but still worked better than the untuned 800cfm carb when she was running... which is why i put that one back on.

The fuel pump is stock style (though Im not sure if its original, I imagine it is not).

    Thanks,
    Kevin

I had the same problem that you are talking about on a 73 455. What is happening and shouldn't is the check valve in the pump is letting the fuel drain back into the tank. Once you get it started and running for a few minutes it seems to fix itself. What I did was fill the fuel line from the carb down to the fuel pump (kind of a pain). then try to fill the bowls on the carb with a squeeze bottle or evan poor some gas in it to get it to start. Do this once or twice and you will likely get the pump up and running again. If it doesn't work after 3 or 4 tries you need a new pump.
