Congrats to all you guys who got PSMCDR coverage in Hemmings. It was a great issue and all your cars looked awesome and ran even better. That said, wouldn't this be a cool addition? At least I think it would. This is a 30+K original mile un-molested car owned by a guy down the road from me. I don't "think" it is for sale per se but everything this guy has is for sale really.
That would be cool! It would rank right up there next to Stefina's '58 Merc. Rank 100 on the COOL scale, but about 15 on the LOOKS scale! What would have been under the hood of the Edsel??
I am not sure if it was 352 maybe? It's right on the cusp of the 390 era though, so I am not sure. ---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 PM ---------- I know, it's so ugly it's beautiful, in some weird way. ---------- Post added at 09:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ---------- I guess according to this page it was a 361 or a 410! I think this one has the 361 then because I would have remembered if he told me a 410. http://www.edsel.com/pages/edsel58.htm#Engines ---------- Post added at 09:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 PM ---------- Oh! And I believe it is a manual column shift.
Easy now...........15 on the looks scale for the Merc? That Edsel would have a 361 in the Ranger and Pacer and the 410 MEL option in Corsair and Citation (larger car). Problem is, not having a "performance engine option" or a "performance image" or fitting in any muscle car definition I doubt it would be accepted. Too bad......... I always thought a '60 Edsel with the 352 360HP would be neat. Can't find any evidence they ever offered it though.
I might rate Brians car higher on the scale than a 15.. I remember at the race ,there was a big crowd around that Sexy Merc. And some A-Hole came up to Brian and Said " well ya know..even $hit draws flies.." All kidding aside, almost everyone wants to see something cool and unusual. If not we would all be watching Hemis Vs Vettes!:3gears:
Maybe it could even be a Nascar spec Edsel. A big 410 in a lightweight body. That would be extra cool. :Brow: If these times are any indication you could have a new front row car here. Quarter mile in 17.4 seconds
HA! I believe I told you that your big, bad Merc even made an Edsel look sexy!! :bglasses: :bglasses: :bglasses: :bglasses: PAH! Who needs evidence. I believe that would be a factory built prototype one-of-one with sketchy documentation you would have there. They would allow it to run just based upon the fact IT IS AN EDSEL! Just make sure it has seatbelts to pass tech. Unlike that disappointed '57 Dodge owner last year whose red/black finned beauty was turned away because of no belts! Comparing that Edsel to the lines of a '59 Impala......they BOTH are really ~OUT~ there-bodystyle wise. I think the Edsel was the more reserved of the two!
I remember at the race ,there was a big crowd around that Sexy Merc. And some A-Hole came up to Brian and Said " well ya know..even $hit draws flies.. Now that's hilarious!!!
Yep, the lesson learned was don't pit near Tim if your car might get more attention........ it bothers him.
Brian's right. The Ranger might actually be the quicker car with the 361. That car would be much lighter I'd think. The 361 is simply a .060 over 352. Wouldn't have much in the way of heads or cam though, more of a cruiser.
ohhh... come on. I said it with brotherly LOVe. I was Merely offering Pearls of wisdom- not insulting your car LIKE FRANK did . Just to Clarify.. I never called Brians Car a Piece of $hit.... Someone said his car was drawing a crowd like Flies, And I said " well ya know-even $hit draws flies "
