Ever bought a parts car you didn't want to cut up?

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

I keep telling myself.....don't do it, you'll need a parts car for the parts car and who knows where that will lead:grin: If this thing was hit, or frame rot it would make this a lot easier, maybe once I start swapping the interior parts into the GS I won't feel as bad. I keep having thoughts of a stripped-down 455 powered race car though:spank:

Joe K. My first GS was just like your parts car but in a little better shape. I still have it 18 years later. It was my first GS and I plan on keeping it forever.

If you want to part it out you can just drive it south to me. I will gladly take you back home. I would love to have it.

I bought a $1 daily driver 16 years ago and couldn't bring myself to sell it after a decade of loyal service.

I swear that cars can give you the puppy dog look...

Well Artie I will tell you this....there arent many skylarks out there as it is....I'd say sell it again as a project after you swap out the stuff you need....glad to see another buick in the driveway though.....heck look at my parts car (posted in the pic)...it was difficult to let that one go, but it was WAY to far gone....at least I got a chance to beat on it at E-town a bit before it went to the big yard in the sky.....RIP my green beast :ball:

That's what happened with the rusty 71GS455 Convert 4spd car I bought for a drive train swap into my other 71GS Convertible. I figured, hey for $3K it's worth it just for the engine and 4spd drive train parts. Then come to find that it's all numbers matching and one of under 30 BB 4spd convertibles made. The seller said it was numbers matching but who would have believed? There goes the drive train swap idea out the window.

Two years later the parts car is getting a ground up restoration and the good car was sold to help pay for it. If I was still married my wife would have murdered me and hidden the body.

I have a 72 gs 455, #'s matching cortez gold with saddle interior, no options except variable ratio P/S, posi, rally pack and chrome rims....way cool car but also way rusty...found two build sheets, one i have the other one you can see on top of the gas tank through the trunk floor.

Debated rebuilding it but looking at 15,000.00 or so for metalwork and paint(plus all the other parts needed to fix the car!), just can't justify it with the stage 1 and the ragtop already in the garage. nobody wated it either so it will be, sadly, parted out....

Some die so others can live. Thats just the way it goes.

Sounds perfect for someone who's planning to do a 350 to 455 upgrade if it runs ok. They could just drop in the entire drive train from the fan shroud back to the 3.42 posi.

Talk about avoiding a lot of time looking for odds & ends and fitting everything together... Wow.

    Artie,
Good Luck with your project. I hope you don't decide to part out the other car. It is getting harder in New Jersey to find cars that can be restore. Plus anyway junk yards and scrap yards are busy enough parting out and crushing the cars without titles.

Yup, right into the 72 GS 350 ragtop. Had to buy both cars to get the convertible (package deal)...
