Exhaust system

Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on an exhaust system. I was concerned about routing it correctly, trying not get fumes coming in the back window of the wagon when it is down. I'm running a 400, mild cam, stock heads, stock manifolds.

    Hi Vic,

I'm not sure if my response will provide any new info for you, but here goes:

I don't think this is an issue if you're moving. If not moving, but with the engine running, I could see fumes entering the rear window (depending on the wind) with rear, under-bumper exhausts.

To mitigate this, you could route the exhaust outlets on the side of the car, just behind each rear wheel (this is how they were from the factory, at least with my 64 Sportwagon).

Incidentally, I've seen OEM-style, single-exhaust systems for the Sport Wagon at Waldron's Exhaust (http://waldronexhaust.com/). You could call them for details; they might have a dual system, too.

Here's a picture of my 71 Sportwagon. I ran the exhaust (duals) to the very back by the bumper facing out. Even with the rotted quarters, I never had any fumes in the car.

On my 71 Sportwagon I picked up the Jegs header back dual exhaust kit. fit great. I have yet to have any exhaust entrance into the car. Being you are running stock manifolds, you may need to get the stock head pipes from somewhere either custom made or Pipes has them.
