Experience with repro rally guages/tach?

I see that both the "Rally Pack" guages and the in dash tachometer are available for the GS. Would these items fit in a car with the standard, non tach, idiot light dash? What types of mods are required to the car harness for proper hook up, and are they worth the effort in terms of appearance and accuracy? I am looking hard at refurbing the dash in my 72, and would not mind adding the up level guages while at it. Thanks, Rudy E

Yep, they'll both fit. I have had the aftermarket tach, its a fairly easy install and the wiring is simple. Seemed to be pretty accurate. The repro rally gage I have no experience with .........

There is an article on buickperformance.com on rearranging the wires in the connector to go from idiot lights to gauges.

I'm not sure that article will apply to putting in an after market repro rally gauge. I know the PartsPlace sells a seperate wiring "adapter" for their gauge and its a little pricy, but I would investigate it first.

The wiring adapter the Parts Place sells does the same thing as rearragening the wires as described on George's site. In 70 the instrument panel harness was gauge/idiot light specific. In 71-2 the factory used an adapter, which the Parts Place sells a copy of.

The installation of this tach is really pretty simple.

I am restoring my GSX and would like to know more about the repop gages. How good do they look? No problem on my wiring as discussed earlier, I already have gages. Where do I find them and how much are they, not that it really matters, since I really want the car RIGHT. Any info will be greatly appreciated. :

www.thepartsplaceinc.com They have both, as well as Year One, I think YO is more expensive. Not sure if they use the same mfg.'s for these or not though.
