I'm looking to replace the top on my car. It's currently black, but I know it's been replaced and it looks like they re-used the original material around the rear window glass and it looks to be white that was dyed black. What would the original color top have been on a burnished saddle car? Did you have your choice? The Stage 2 hood is gone and the factory one is in place.
I had a 70 burnished saddle 4 speed convertible and from memory the factory top was a dark brown color.
I've seen pics of cars online. I've seen white, black, tan, dark tan. About 6 colors in all. I'm sure some are tops that have been redone. I'm just curious what would have been a factory color so that I can do that and not have to go through this again if/when the car is redone with a new pearl white interior and exterior paint.
Found this handy GM decoder here on another thread. I'll post the results. http://datatagdecoder.com/_beta/form.html
There should be two numbers and a letter, the letter will be your top color. Post what the cowl tag says and we can look up the original top color.
This is what came back. Unfortunately it did not offer letters for the top color. The letter is an "E". I was really hoping the color would come back as Riviera Sage. I love that real light purple color. Thanks. Hmmm. When I go to OPGI the only color options for Skylark/GS is black and white. YearOne shows tan and buckskin.
This is verified by the Factory Assembly Manual. Check Electron Tops which along with Robbins is the best.
http://www.electrontop.com/ Ask Electron for their local dealers. They will get the top cheaper than you and warranty it. I would never buy and top and try to get someone to install it because they are not going to take responsibility for a top you provided. http://www.electrontop.com/color-charts.html
