    Fiberglass for a '64 Skylark

    Ruston,

If you can find their website, a company named WS Racing has some fiberglass parts for the '64 Skylark. Also go to http://partsboy.com/buickskylarksheetmetal.htm. They sell fiberglass hoods for the 64-65 Skylark for $460 USD.

Got onto W S Racing ....$200 for a pin on type bonnet and $400 each for the doors. They have bumpers, front guards, deck lid etc for the 65 as well, but I'm unsure how or if they are interchangeable to the 64.
Couldn't get the Partsboy site to load yet.
    THANKS Mark

BTW what are you running in your Skylark?

You're welcome. I have the aluminum head version of the 300 in my Skylark. Currently has a Poston 110-A cam, 500cfm Carter AFB, 11:1 compression, dual point distributor, mild head porting, dual exhausts, 3.08 rear end. Nice cruiser that 's easy to drive and maintain. And you?

The 65 fenders, bumper, and grille are different from the 64. they can be interchanged as a group, but not as individual parts.

MARK ,I pulled the KP300 because of electrolisis problemes and are presently running an SF block 455 with TH350. I just got a heap of parts from TA to put in the motor including TA 113 cam,
then I'll re gear the rear end and put in new body mounts.I did a body on resto back in 91 and have owned this car for nearly twenty years...I love it!!!

ADAM, Thanks for that! I thought the guards may have been different with the holes for ventiports? The bonnets look the same
I'll look out for a scond hand steel one and ship it out to here.

I haven't seen much about these 64 Skylarks,Ebay seems to have a few bits for them, or Hemmings.

Yes, well I learned the hard way at about 16 years old. Found a nice fender for my first Buick, put it on, and when the bumper went to go on, there was about a 3" gap between the top of the bumper and the clearance notch in the fender.

You will also notice that the bumper on a 64 drops before overlapping the grille, while the 65 goes UP to overlap the grille.

I am 80% shure that the hood is the same. What's a venti-port? (I figured out the bonnet :) )

No problem, us '64 drivers need to stick together!

Oh well ,I won't be making that mistake now I know the bumpers don't interchange!!!! Mine are in good shape anyway....can you imagine what it would cost me to bring one over to here only to find out it didn't fit....doesn't bear thinking about!!!
Ventiports are those fake air intake/vents on the side of the guards, the 64 has them above the side mouldings and the 65 has them in the moulding I think????

I think that you are looking at a Special with the "port-holes" above the trim. My 64 Skylark has them in the trim and I don't recall on a 65 Skylark. Maybe none at all? The 65 gran-sport has a large rectangular unit sunk into the fender.

I haven't paid too much attention, but think that they are not sunk into the fender with large holes. Just small holes for the mounting studs. Not positive on this though.

who knows I haven't paid much attention either, I 've left them off on mine, though they are peculiar to Buicks,I might put them back. I thought though it was the 66 that had the large ones on the fender as the whole car had changed it's shape??
Like you were saying it might be the special that had them above the moulding ....I had one of those as well years ago.
How much do you think I would pay for a hood?

I would think $150 for a nice one. These cars are peculiar, not many parts, but not much demand for what there is, either.

If you can go fiberglass, that'd sure save a bundle in shipping I'd think.

Ok , I'll have to find a steel one then get ozbuick to ship it with his next container ex california....that would be the way to go.

"Ventiports" is the official Buick styling department term for portholes, in all of their variations over the years
