By month's end, I'll have my first batch of metal super wildcat aircleaner decals. Up to this point all that has been available are those paper repros that had the incorrect gold border. Patrick, please post some pics when possible! I do have a repo one here....printed on plastic film, and has a gold border. .....were the originals silkscreened on gold anodized aluminum? I never knew that. Interesting.
The original decal's border has a polished gold finish over which the white and red background and black text is printed. The place doing the work says that it's anodized aluminum and it's a perfect match. I approved the art last week. The die and sheet metal have been ordered. The only difference is that I've made my decal a hair thicker just to make them more stable, but there will be no notable difference. I've got a lot of money tied Up in my '65 Riv GS and will probably spend more on this junker '66 Wildcat GS I just bought. Why top it off with a bad decal that is the first item people see when the hood is open. I could not bear to put a repro decal on my car that was not absolutely correct. So, I'm having a few made for myself and a some extras. When my hood is open, I want to step back to 1965.
I expect to have the Aluminum "Super Wildcat" 2x4 aircleaner decals on Wednesday and I'll try to post pictures of an original decal, the paper decal that has been available, and the one that I've had reproduced so everyone can see why I was compelled to get this done. The shop that did the work says that they're perfect. :TU: The decal will have an adhesive peel and stick backing for easy application.
"Super Wildcat" decal in Aluminum I just received the "Super Wildcat" 2x4 air cleaner decals. They have turned out spectacularly and are indistinguishable from NOS. I made them slightly thicker to make them more stable. The colors are exact. The gold anodized edge is the exact width and color just like the original. Now, you can safely throw out your faded original or bad reproduction. I have a limited quantity and probably will not do another run because of the expense involved. A manufacturing defect was found in the first batch. The supplier did not bake the decals at high enough temperature so they did not cure properly. I was disappointed when I discovered this, but new ones will be available within 10 days. Several folks have received them and are pleased with the decal's appearance. I guarantee them to be perfect for fit, finish, and functionality. If you order one and if it's not what I say it is, send it back no questions asked. We've seen enough bad reproductions. Anybody who has paypaled me has been issued a refund unless I was asked to hold payments until the new shipment arrives. These are going on my cars so I need these to be right just as much as everybody else. :TU:
Here's an update on the Super Wildcat Decals: The supplier has ordered new raw stock and is testing it to ensure the paint will stick to the metal once baked at the proper temperature. I should have the new decals by month's end--right about the time my aircleaner is returned from the plater. :TU:
Many of you may know that the 1st batch of “Super Wildcat” decals arrived with a defect. Although their appearance is correct, they were not allowed to cure properly and could not be used. The second batch has a rough finish and is unacceptable. The supplier called me this morning asking for the opportunity to make this right. I agreed hoping that the third time will be a charm. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://v8buick.com/ /><o></o> <FONT size=3><FONT face=Yesterday, I received replacement decals. While the original problem was solved, their appearance/texture is unacceptable. For those of you who asked me to hold your payments until good decals became available, your money has been returned. I cannot, in good conscience, hold your money any longer. <o></o> <font size=" /><o></o> <FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">This is a project that I’ve been trying to get done for over a year because I suspected that if I need one of these decals others would need one too. So, please bear with me as I work through this. You will be satisfied I want this to be done right.
