'67 Wildcat; 430 CI 4BBl quadrajet (stock, I think). For the last month without warning the monster dies of fuel starvation, despite good fuel flow up to carb. Inlet valve sticking. Is there any desparate quick fix/magic mystery oil? If not, what is the fix? Took it apart once, clean as a whistle throughouy, did no good. Replace needle and seat? Source?

Yes, replace needle and seat. I'd rebuild the entire carburetor. Sounds like it is time. http://www.quadrajetparts.com/

What is the number of your carburetor? I was running a 7027241 for several years, which has the smaller needle/seat (sleeved with 2-screw collar) system, and is pretty restrictive. The later 1967 model, 7027248 has the new screw-in needle/seat system which flows better and can accept larger diameters for better fuel flow.

I never have idle/stumbling problems with the 248 carbs like I did with the 241s.

Remove the seat from the carburetor, put it on a block of wood, and take a spare steel check ball and smack it once firmly with a small hammer and brass punch. This will form a new seat that doesn't have sharp edges.

Carefully inspect the needle to make sure the Vition tip is in perfect shape.

Re-assemble and check the float level, and free travel of the float it's full range of motion on the hinge pin.

The tiny clip is not required, but woln't hurt anything. Just make sure it is correctly attached and actually lifts the needle off the seat when the float gets to the bottom of the bowl.

Make sure to hang the curved part toward the back of the carb, and never hook it thru either hole in the float if used.....Cliff

As Lemmy-67 asked... What is the carb number??? Should be on a colored round metal tag on the drivers side if it's an original '67 carb... or the much later replacement version for 67 has it stamped vertically on the main body just over the secondary shaft..

There are a few different versions of that needle/seat and or the plunger valve design for that year... so it's best to know which one you have...

Also, for me it is easier to remove the internal fuel filter in the carb and install a clear one in the line before it so I can see the fuel flow and if it's clogged or not...

You can always drill out the two screw collar adaptions to a larger size and reset with a check ball as Cliff has mentioned above..
