I am cleaning up the rusty parts inside of my 70 Skylark under dash a/c box before I put it back in the car and it appears that something must be missing from the outside perimeter or the surface of this "door". There are a number of staples through the metal portion that makes me believe that there was something rubber once attached. Can anyone tell me what is supposed to be here and where I might find the missing piece(s) or a replacement "door" (if that is the proper name for it) ? Thank you...Gary

What you have is a diverter door, it had a thin piece (1/8" maybe) of dense foam for a seal so when the door closes it diverts all the air. If you buy a heater box seal kit you get all those pieces. You can glue them in place, the spray tacky glue for upholstery or contact cement works good.
I get this sort of parts for a Chevelle from NPD, their part number is
C-8855-102A and cost $22.95. Phone 1-800-368-6451, or you can get on their web site, search National Parts Depot.

Thank you for the incredible detail. I found the part in their catalog and ordered it tonight. 24/7 parts department really helps. Thank you very much...Gary
