Fluid In motor

    Which type of fluid shoukd I use in a 1966 skylark convertible top motor and exactly how do I fill it

    Is there any fluid in it now? If its yellowish it would be brake fluid. Red is transmission fluid. Tranny fluid is preferable since it won't damage paint, doesn't hold water, etc.; all the typical issues with brake fluid. Remember, though, the two don't mix. If there's brake fluid in it now, you'll have to flush all that out before swapping over to trans fluid.

    To fill it, there's a rubber plug on one end of the pump near the top. Pull that out to fill it. Fill until it runs back out, put the plug back in, run the top up & down a couple times to work the air out, then top it off again. I use an old hydraulic jack oil bottle to fill with. You can squirt the fluid in easier with their long tips.
