    1970Stage1 Why Go Quietly?

My great grandparents purchased a 70 olds cutlass 4-door new here in denver colorado. They drove it daily for 25 consecutive years, but they are both 92 years old now, and driving anywhere is out of the question. They don't need it anymore, so they gave it to me as a "gift." It's got a strong (for what it is) 350-2bbl, and a TH-350 trans. I'm very appreciative, but I have no idea what I'm gonna do with it. I might part it but who knows. Now I have a 70 Buick and a 70 Olds, so what the heck? :Brow: -Kevin

    It's a shame it's a 4 door, but for free who cares?

Use it as a winter car perhaps?

Don't part it don't part it don't part it!!!!! Get an Edelbrock PErformer intake and a q-jet on it. It'll make a world of difference, then drive the heck out of it. Or give it to me :Brow:

    Another Olds stock car?

I could use it for next years Enduro season at the local 1/4 mile oval. I had to get rid of my car cuz it blew up and I ran out of room for it. Im looking for another big race car.

As much as I love old cars, I think 4-door 68-72 A-bodies were a disgrace to GM styling of that period. They are good for free, or for parts.

I always thought the 70 Cutlass had the best looking tail lights of the 68-72 oldsmobiles, or maybe all the A-bodies. I would find a 70-72 2 door in need of some TLC and switch the parts.

I know of a nice 72 cutlass 2-door hdtp (not a supreme) for $1500. This 70 4-door has nice bumpers and is all there, so maybe I'll part it for that 72 if I get it, who knows. My uncle had a 70 W-31 that he said ran really strong, so maybe I'll go that route and build a small block.........I'll keep you posted. -Kevin

    4 doors, 4 speeds, 2 barrels = 441.5

    Hey Kevin:

I'm all for the sleeper approach, could I interest you in a clean one owner 455? :Brow:

You provide a nice core Buick engine and you just might be able to pick it up for a song!!!:bglasses:

You will have to come up with a core TH-400 too, but I can show you how to build that.:jd:

I am sure I could use some body parts for my 70 442 convertible, if the body on your car is in good shape.

The body on the 70 cutlass is straight, but it has rust spots on the bottoms of the fenders about the size of a fist. The quarters aren't quite as bad. Both bumpers are decent, grilles are broken but still useable. All I want from this car is the rearend and maybe the heads. But it all depends on if I get that 72 cutlass. -Kevin

    Kevin,
How good is the trunk pan? Just so you know, most of the exterior pieces of a 70 are not interchangable with a 71-72. Many 70 parts are 1 year only.

    Kevin,
Ask your Great Grand parents if they mind if you part out that car before you consider doing it. That car might represent the best they have to offer their Grandson at this time in their life. Shame on you if you do anything other than enjoy that car. Just my humble opinion.

Yes I would feel a little guilty if I parted it out. But my great grandparents don't even know who I am anymore. :( :( Niether of them can hear or speak, and they don't realize that the olds is gone. I will consider what you said though Bill. :) -Kevin

    72skylark 4 Doors of Fury!

My advise is, keep it stock and running. Drive that as you're daily driver. Believe me, you don't need 2 project cars. Put your energy into your 455 lark. Always try to keep one project at a time. I haven't worked on my project truck in I don't know how long cause I'm too busy doing stuff to the buick... Keep the olds as a reliable one, so you'll be able to get around, and it won't matter if you buick goes off the road for repairs/upgrades/bad weather. I drove my skylark around for about a year as my only car, and it made for a great daily driver. Then when you pick up another daily driver, sell it to some teenager that needs a cheap car.
Also at you're age you'll actually appreciate the four doors when you're out with you friends and need to squeeze 7 people in your car.
