Gap between Flex plate and converter??

    My TH400 S/P is slipping between 2-3 shifts at WOT, I am assuming that I need a rebuild so I am pulling my tranny. I have it hooked up to a Buick 350 engine.
    I unbolted the converter from the flexplate and I noticed that I have about 3/8" play in between them. I can push the converter all the way into the tranny and I can almost fit my finger in between the mounting hole on the converter and the flexplate, is this OK?
    If not can I use washers to take up the gap???

    Typical play is 1/4-3/8". No worries.
