Hey guys, looking for a Gear vendors over drive set up to add to my 67 GS. A full set up would be nice or odds an ends to piece one set together. I'm out in San Jose CA
On that nice of a car i might just bit the bullet and buy a new unit. But hopefully somebody can come through with a good used unit. Let us know how it works out once you do install one. Gary
Thanks Gary, figured they are bullet proof enough and could save a couple of bucks. I unfortunately sold my hellcat to get a condo & made this daily driver but the 3.73s are killing me on the highway so I cruise it through the city. I still have the semi crazy goal of daily driving the GS.
If you can find a used one, Gear Vendors is a great company to deal with, and a full rebuild is not that expensive.
There's one on Ebay...............https://www.ebay.com/itm/303968766726?hash=item46c5f34b06:g:g4MAAOSw0d1gf22u BTW....Your car is lookin' real good now!
I have one for T-10. Had it in my '64 Skylark with a BW T-10 behind a nailhead. But more torque than the 55 year old T-10 could handle and it broke the 3rd gear cluster. (should have rebuilt it before putting it behind the nailhead) Only 500 miles on it. The more than 3 months to get a Richmond, or even parts to rebuild my T-10, I went with a TKO-500. So, if you cannot find one you like, PM me and we can talk. I have everything, including all the boxes, the only exception is the two small LEDs since I drilled holes and put them in my dash. Any panel mount LEDs will work. (I could remove mine if it really came down to it). I also have the driveshaft I had made, might be the same length required, since both are A-body.
Sounds good, I even considered a TKO-600 but I like the orginal Centerl console and tach in it right now. Would there be a difference in the unit since yours was orginally for a manual transmission? Or will it bolt up to an automatic and work the same? Sorry, i'm pretty new to Gear Vendors, Iv'e heard of them but not really looked into them till now.
Thanks! That unit does look tempting! Not bad for the price. I missed out on one locally that was $1200 but for a T19 Had everything!
The manual uses a button on the shift knob, and the auto uses a dash button. (the control is about the same, just actuated differently) It would not be too difficult to wire a button to the console shifter, or floor (dimmer style) switch or other methods. You would need to get the correct transmission to GV tailshaft adapter. On the T-10, the tailshaft housing is replaced and the adapter goes behind the tailshaft housing and the GV bolts to that. I sent a message to GV to see what is exactly required/cost for those components, and will update when I hear from them. (I was considering putting this behind my '68, with the TH400)
Ah okay that makes sense, I wasn't sure if there was anything internally that was different. Sound pretty straight forward.
I've had my GV since 2006. You can see the Red/Green lights with AUTO/MAN rocker switch to the left of my small fuel pressure gauge. I have a second dimmer switch which you can see as well.
That looks awesome. I really like that set up. Looks stock still, just added what was needed. I like the foot switch as well.
I wonder if the GV would work on a short tailshaft TH400 in a second gen Riv (67-69) since it has the X frame??
I just received a new one for a client's '67 GS-400 with a TH-400, as I believe we are a dealer now, .... I will verify that though with our purchasing department. I'll let you know how that goes as we proceed, though this project is getting pretty in depth as in replacing both 1/4 panels, trunk floor, frame with strengthening plates/braces, front and rear Global West suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, Moser 12-Bolt rear axle assembly, core support, and more. So it may be a while before I post any photos of the actual install. I will post up some photos of the kit itself since we have it. I'm still on the fence if I want to add one to my Skylark, but it's looking more like I'm going to do it too. Larry
Sounds like a serious project you got going Larry, post up some pics (even in a separate thread) of the build, we'd all love to see it.
