Yesterday i came across two GM bucket seats that were in great shape. Cloth, w/buttons, plastic backs, chrome button with grooves in back, no tears, and mint headrests. I need to know where these could have came from and if anybody is interested. Sorry i dont have a pic now. Also the mechanism to raise an lower the headrests wasn't a button like in 72' but a rubber tab that moved side to side on both posts. Could these have come from a 442? There was a 442 bumper, tach and other parts around it. Thanks in advance. :TU:

Sounds like 442. If the seat back release was on the outside of the seat near the door, then they came from a '67-'68, if it's in the center of the seat back, then they are '69-'72. If the early release is present, then the headrest was an option. Early '69 (pre Jan 1st) the head rest was optional, after that date, they became federally mandated. This is why most center release seat have the headrest.

If the seats are the early models, then headrests are not common (rare?) which could explain why the release looks different. OR the seats are from a G-body like a Grand Prix or Monte Carlo ('69-'72). Pictures of the seats would really help on this one.

The buckets are an exact match for what's shown in the 71 Olds brochure, so they came from a 71 Cutlass/442. The buckets in the 72 Olds brochure look slightly different, so don't look like a match for 72.

Fronts look ok. The seat backs are junk, most likely the lowers are bad also. Seat tracks MIGHT clean up, figure on getting new ones. Check on the prices of covers, plastic parts, seat foams, small parts and shipping. This is all in addition to buying the seats. I think you'll have a nice set of $600 dollar seats when done. This assumes you can do all of the work yourself and there are no broken springs to repair. Seller figures on $90 to ship. Looking at 4 boxes if he pulls them apart, and they are heavy. Good luck and I hope it works for you.
