JW, Rick was running a external line from the pan to the pump also, the problem was that the screen on the pick-up in the pan was clogged with RTV, limiting the flow of oil into the pump. Rick made a pick-up without a screen and put a 100 micron inline filter between the pick-up and pump in the external line. The main problem was that Rick had to use a lot of sealer to seal the block girdle/pan. I'm not saying this is your problem, just tossing out the issues that we had. The one nice thing about a vacum pump is that it is almost impossible to have a oil leak if you are pulling any amount of vacum inside the engine as we learned, which led to the use of much less RTV. Keep us posted on what you find, I'm always looking to head off any issues that may come my way.
Cory I don't think you'll be dissappointed in that pump, that's a nice piece and the right way to do it. It will really stabilize oil pressure and should free up some power.
It should work out well. I spent a butt load, but I think that it should be money well spent. Takes a huge load off the cam, cam bearings and the dist. Makes priming the system super easy (just pull a belt and hit with a drill). Plus give you a lot of control over oil pressure and volume. I also bought the Indy Heads pick up. Only time will tell.
Cory I think I remember hearing that could even spin them by hand and they would pump...o No: That p/u is nice too, that's what I started using last year. Can't wait to see it run, when are you trying to be out by?
Hey ya'll I just got one of the movies on my web page of the pull its'self Turn up the speakers !!!!:beer DYNO DAY HERE!!! Someone try it out and see if it works ok!!!! :TU:
Mike, I think you will find the problem seeing the videos on your web page in the line below. I think the "file=:/// E:/video/p3070005.mov" needs to be changed. Mike
Gary, I'm punching out of here soon, duty calls again for 6 months to a year. I have just about everything I need, heads should be here anyday from JB, got some good flow numbers on the stage3's 360int/270ex. The ex side would of been better I think if I would of gone to smaller dia valve, but I'm pleased with the numbers. I still need a converter, looking at a Neal Chance bolt togather. And need to change out the 4.88 for 3.54's in the dana and need to get a base line on the 4 link. And I need to make some adapter plates for the mopar tunnel ram. If all goes well I would like to have it ready for BPG first run providing they have aheads up class that I can run in.
To show my appreciation for your service to our Country you can drop off your car for me to work on while you're gone....I'd love to spend someone else's money for a change.... Oh yeah....I've got a big garage, drop off Rick's car too,I race it for him while he's gone. Seriously, keep me updated on your progress, should be one bad ride when it's done
I hear you, in fact I was just asking myself who would be a great dude that would care for my car while I'm gone. The list came up empty. If the weather gets much nicer here in NC and I don't leave soon, Rick's motor is going in my car. We came within a rat's butt of dropping it in over the winter, but I was still hoping to have my motor done by now. Last week I put Rick's car back in his garage. He bought his wife a new car right before he left. So he left the GS out side, after his neigbors told his wife about guys stopping by and scope the car out we moved it back inside. Rick is doing fine, still no power in his tent yet. He called his wife the other day and wishes everyone the best of luck this year racing. I very excited about getting this thing togather, plus I gives my mind something to chew on while I'm away. Once I get the engine built, I would mind a little dyno time. I think she should be around 750hp or so. On a totally different note. I went to the track a couple of weeks ago. And this guy Tracy has been playing around with mustangs for a few years decided to step it up, and man did he. He has a 96' tube chassis stang, running a 377" ford with a big single turbo on a 10.5" tire. He went 5.07@138 in the 1/8 and 7.87@179 in the 1/4. Not too Bad
Works fine for me! Kinda reminded me of this for some reason: http://geocities.com/oc_gwailo/sounds/garage_us.wav - Freed
Mike, I don't know if you cruised the BPG site yet but I posted my dyno numbers from today's session. 830 hp at 6500 rpm and 722 lbs ft of torque at 5300 rpm. It's been a good month for both of us. Congrats again. Doug.
Mike and Doug, what brand, type, octane, etc... of Race fuel were you using on the Dyno? Are these pump gas motors? Do the HP numbers change with fuel changes? Mike
My engine uses 112 Torco and yes they say fuel can hurt and help HP. I ran out of time to try any changes but it was fun anyway.
Race fuel The world of race fuels is somewhat a black art. There is alot more to it that buying "race fuel" and putting it in the car. If you go to the VP Race Fuels website you will see a whole list of race fuels considered "gasoline". They give a brief description and recommendation, but there is alot more to it. I've talked to Stock and Super Stock racers that have gotten as much as a tenth from changing fuel, BUT you have to tune the motor to match each fuel's characteristics. One Super Stock racer told me that he dumped in a certain fuel and his motor would hardly idle, but after a day or two of testing and tuning he had picked up a solid .05. Some of these fuels cost as much as $20 a gallon. The blending and "special fuels" got so bad that NHRA mandated certain "spec fuels" for Pro Stock, Comp, Super Stock, and Stock. Some people had some wild mixtures that still passed NHRA tech. Have fun.
I've used VP C-12 and C-14 in the past but for several years I've been using Sunoco (Cam-2) Blue. It has enough octane for my combination (14.5:1) and it's available everywhere I race.
