Got beat by a Camaro......almost !!

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

Was rolling with the wife early Sunday morning on Rt 347 which is 3 lanes wide for a few miles with lites spaced a good distance apart. Im in the right lane minding my business when i see a sinister black ~2000 Camaro in my side view 2 lanes over in the left. As he passes me several things happen all at once

    * I notice the skinny's up front and the fatty's out back on shiney rims

    * I can hear....HEAR his car through the drone of my motor as i cruise @ 40 mph

    * As his rear bumper passes me I see the "SS" badges

    * When he throws me a rev I knew he wanted some

As he cleared traffic in the Middle lane he pulled into it and I slowly crept up along side on the right making him wait for me to come window to window.

I told my wife to put her head back against the seat because I'm Gonna have some Camaro for BreakFast !! She obliged with that "Boyz with their Toyz" look but didnt protest (which suprised me).

I Guess he was impatient for me to come up next to him, so he took control and slowed a bit....I took the opportunity to slide the shifter from 3rd into 2nd and when he heard my Revs jump from the gear switch he must have thought Its On Because I hear a Nasty EFI Motor Come on Strong !!

Since I was in the throttle for the gear change I just continued and mashed it to the Boards....In my mind seeing the black car slide along my side, back into my past.......

But it Didn't !!! He Hung right there.....Until he had to shft for 3rd which only brought my nose up to his fender line !! I nudge the shifter into 3th gaining a few more inches....and soon he has to bang 4th and again i gain a few......clawing my way up , finally Nose to nose.....

Nose to Nose.....as the speedo swept past 90 and was marching fast I got out of it and braked. He stayed in it a bit longer but must have been thinking the same because when he was a few cars in front of me he singnaled and came over into my right hand lane.

The up coming lite had a convenience store at our corner and he pulled in so i followed. We both got out and at the same time said " Nice Run !!!" haveing mutual respect for the car that almost just beat Me/Him......The next few seconds were silence as I stood there eyes roaming over his black car as he did the same to my gleaming red convert

Again, the silence was broken by us talking at the same time, Me saying "Thats No STOCK Camaro !!" as he pointed to my hood badges and said "No WAY is that a 400 !!" we laughed and instantly were friends spending the next few minutes talking and opening hoods etc. My wife took the cue and went into the store to give us our moment. He left before she got out and i was waiting back in the drivers seat soaking up the sun when she returned.

"You got BEAT by a Camaro !!!"
    "I DID NOT !!!
    "Yes dear, you did..."
"We were Fender to Fender !!"
    "....and his was ahead"
    "He jumped me !!"
    .
    .
    .
    .
......"Besides, He had a Stroked 396 with NOS plumbing everywhere and said he Runs Lowww 11's !!!"

"Is that why he beat you ?"
"He DID NOT BEAT ME !!!! it was a tie ....we didn't even discuss who was ahead"
    "....because he knew he won"
    .
    .
"He KNEW it was a tie...."
"What ever you say, dear......but who pulled into the parking lot first ?? "
WOMEN !!!! :Dou:  :Dou: :spank:

    Alan,
Cool race but,now you'll never really be sure in your mind who won.
If it was me, I would have invited him to round 2,and remove any doubts!:TU:

    Alan,
You would have won. The extra ballast in the passenger seat slowed you down.

to be humble and honest......I think he was toying with me. I know Im not the fastest fish in the ocean

I've run a best time of 12.39 with limited traction on the starting line so lets say at best Im a 12.0 car. If he is in the low 11's like he said, Im sure its on the bottle, which the car had plen-Teee of plumbing for. He said it was a 2-stage 250 hp wet system :Do No: .....and frankly I believe him because he was a very sincere, nice guy.

I will tell you this - he was basically CLUELESS to Big Block Buick power before our encounter and he was VERY impressed at the way my Convert. "Hung right there"

For me, the ultimate compliment was - in the parking lot with the top down gleaming in the morning sun, he looked at my car and said "Man....I'd NEVER expect a stock-looking Convertible to run like that. "

    ....Mission Accomplished
