My daughter and I ran up to Volo to drool over muscle cars and noticed a '70 gs 455 being looked over in the garage area. I assumed it was a prospective buyer.

Was it anyone from the board? I almost poked my nose in, but controlled myself. Any indication of the quality of the car?

They have quite a few gran sports up their; was worth the trip to get a close look at the '72 stage one convertible.

One thing about Volo, they aren't afraid to ask a pretty penny for their cars.

I bought a beautiful and solid 1966 Corvette 327 300 4spd with AC, Spt wheel, Side pipes back in 1983 for 14K. That looks like a great deal now doesn't it.

I agree with you that those days are over. They're asking too much for what they've got.

I sold a 95ZR1 Corvette there in 1996. I don't remember the details now but would say two things. First, they gave me a haircut. Second, back then the internet wasn't what it is now. I don't know how much longer they will be able to do what they do with consignment cars and haircuts on sales prices unless they're offering indefinite storage for their "Museum" image.

I like the place, don't get me wrong. They have a right to make money.

I was in there one day with Buicklawyer who really loves and knows Olds cars. We saw a nice , but not a fully restored W30 convt 4 speed, that had two people trying to pay 59K to purchase. One got it and the other was upset. An equivalent Buick would not in my opinion have brought any more than say 35-40K.

Jim, if you guys are planning to revisit my neighborhood let me know. I will either:
    a) roll out the welcome mat
    b) call the police
    c) fly back to China
    d) not answer the phone or door bell
    e) b & d

If you want to look at Buicks in Illinois, we can try to get some people together.

    (Correct answer is: a)

Thank you. I have not been to China in 54 years. My wife and I would like to visit. It is safer now than the Middle East or Africa. I do miss going there--truly a wonderful place.

    Mike:

I getting major re-chrome work done over the winter and once the stage one is back together, one of the first road trips will be up to Lake Zurich and Volo. I think the wife and kids would enjoy a long weekend up there. When it happens, I'll drop you an e-mail.

By the way Jim, I told my wife your better half has now set the bar for wives pretty damn high when it comes proper gifts.

I've looked at several 67-68 Firebirds at Volo. They seem to sell "12 foot" cars ; in other words good from far, far from good. They look good, but upon closer inspection the cars tend to need a lot of work. One time they advertised that the car had a new paint job. It looked great from the outside, but whoever painted it did'nt even bother to paint the jambs, the trunk etc. In fact the underneath on the door was all unpainted Bondo. This was on a car they were asking $18,000 for. I'm not saying all their cars are like this, but let the buyer beware
