Normally for a person, their birthday would be a good day. Unfortunately mine has been far from it.

    --Begin Bad Day--

A little background, I moved to Yakima, WA after my girl friend started college here. We're both from western WA. Her parents pay for most of her bills, and own the car she drives. She does work part-time at a local store.

Well, this morning she found an envelope in her mail box from the college. She was placed on Academic Probation for having a low GPA. We got a copy of her grades, only to discover that for her core classes she didn't score high enough to advance to the next classes.(She is studying to be a Vet Tech.) The classes can only be retaken, in the fall.

Her parents have always been strict. When we were in high-school, they made her walk 4 miles home everyday because she failed a class. She was grounded for a month because I gave her a ride home in the rain.

    --End Bad Day--

So, there you have it. I'm just ranting. She is planning on moving in with me now, since her schooling is kinda screwed up. And, she doesn't want to go back home just to be chewed out all the time for it.

John, it sucks hear that. My rents were understanding about my poor grades and I pushed thru it my dad after wards said he was extremely suprised that I finished it.
I too was stuck having to wait a year to retake classes. it's not cool.

it sounds like you need to do something extra special for her birthday.

parents can be too parenty sometimes. not everyone is gifted when it comes to school or the format most education is in. (I for one am not one to learn well with most formal education) parents and many educators assume that you just need to study harder to get the information it's complete BS. I've done worse studying for a class (not cramming, but everyday re reading what was talked about etc etc) and bombed the tests then just taking the information in thru the lectures and some reading I'd get a B in the same class on the 2nd test.

it was very difficult for me to finish school but it in the end I'm glad I did it.
there were some really bad times too where a lot of thought was going on about doing something stupid to myself.

she needs to keep focus on her goal and dreams.

school can be paid for with other means (loans and such) the money is there (if she relies on money for her parents) sure it will take a while to pay for it but the money is there and with intrest rates so low now its not a bad thing.

there is a light at the end of the tunnel she just needs a few steps back. and yes parents are defantly not helping in the matter.
