    Hi guys,

I'm new to the board, new to buicks and even new to classic american v8 muscle cars.
But!! ... this will change soon, hopefully. I bought my self a 72 Skylark with a 455 somewhere in California (via a local classic car import company) which is currently in a container on a ship somewhere in the atlantic. :)

got a ton of pictures, but need to wait about 6 more weeks until its in the garage of my local mechanic. I'm so excited.

can somebody tell me what I'm looking at in this picture? Is this the flywheel? and should this be open like that?

until then im looking for interesting stuff in this forum i guess ;)

    regards
    Christian

In some applications people leave them off to better release heat

thanks everyone for the warm welcome :)

looks like I'll add a flexplate cover to my shopping list ... I'm quick curious what else there is that needs to be changed. To get it registered as an oldtimerover here it needs to be contemporary. Otherwise they'll charge ridiculous amounts of tax due to the huge engine size ... but then again, where is the fun driving a muscle car :beers2:

must have was a huge engine, bench seat in the front as well as an automatic transmission with stick on the steering column :bglasses:

one of the challenges will most likely be the rims which are currently mounted. But the original ones are too slim for my taste ... well, we'll see

thanks for the link to the german ami forum. I'll definitely have a look

Why is that? I always thought there is just stuff like hazard lights and stuff to change.

    Sure, thanks.
Although all this will be done by my local mechanic, I'm not sure if he already knows what to order.

You probably should have a 2.73 or 2.56 ratio in the rear axle for the autobahns. The cars in Germany have wide ratio transmissions and long legged gear ratios. Where in Germany are you?

    @Bad Boattail

thanks for the article. Very interesting. Didn't know that.
Can you send me the order number from such a conversion kit. I'm very curious what it consists of or if it is sufficient once other bulbs can be mounted.

And your hint on using a relay sounds also reasonable. Since this should only cost a couple of extra.

    @philbquick
    I'm live around Munich.

Those gear ratios are like total miracles to me :)

I'll be happy if the car is driving at all since what I already know is that it was a car with a 350 engine originally, and most like they only swapped the engine, but did nothing to make sure the rest is holding up.

    Hi and welcome from Denmark..

455" in a 350" car .. If we make changes to our cars in Denmark, it's not vintage anymore so you gotta pay higher tax, and of you are involved in a crash, the insurance company can deny you any money because of illegal changes..

we are allowed to put everything in/on what was available back then +10 years beginning from the production date of the car.
So I'm looking forward to disc brakes and stuff as well, although my budget will not have enough room for that now

    Danke @rrbnut :)

.... oh oh I'd be careful. I don't want to fustrate you but you have to obey quite a lot of regulations to register a fully street-legal classic car.
A first set of regulations are applicable if you go from the red (07) plate to a regular license plate.
And many, many more restrictions apply if you intend to have a "H-Kennzeichen".

    - as for the low beams. Yes, absolutely required. You can get them anywhere (standard size for decades). Together with the relay solution that is a good thing.

    - Not sure how fast you want to go. If you really intend to go up to 200km/h then the rear gear ratio becomes important to you.

And before If forget .... welcome to the Buick world and V8Buick

wow, another one just a couple minutes away. :)

A history plate is what i want to maintain even after some minor changes. Otherwise our tax system is killing me.
It's funny. Depending on who you talk to you have a range from 'factory stock' to 'what ever they did back than'.

and in terms of top speed I'm not that worried. At the end I'm more look for the pure v8 sound and some squeaking tiers :bglasses:

    Thanks @BrunoD

    Hello from Switzerland as well!

Advice: Find someone to register your car or you get into real trouble once they find out and don't like that there is a wrong engine in the car.
All the US Car specialists know their ways to get the TV! :)

If you do not find a cover I may have a spare one...but shipping from switzerland to europe (EU) is almost as expensive as from the US
