grrrr...stupid payroll mgr....

Discussion in 'The Bench' started by David Gramlow, Dec 18, 2003.

  1. I found out by accident that the optional term life insurance policy that I've been paying for thru my employer's insurance plan, apparently has not been in force for 2 1/2 years! YET, the premiums have been deducted like clockwork from my paycheck for all those months, to the tune of over $900 total premiums!

Turns out, 2 1/2 yrs ago, when I transferred my Blue Cross plan to my wife's employer's plan, when she became eligible there, they cancelled my optional term life insurance, when they specifically told me I would be able to keep it, even without the BC/BS health insurance! . I dug thru 2 1/2 yrs of insurance statements to my employer, before I found the last time BCBS billed the company for any premiums. So our payroll mgr failed to notice in all that time that he wasn't being billed for my $33/month premium. :spank: Now they owe me $900+, and I have to shop for life insurance again.

Well, due to changes with my wife's employer's plan, I now had to sign up for single health insurance with my employer, effective December 1st. Guess what our payroll mgr forgot to do on last week's paycheck... that's right, he still deducted the life ins premium!! And he forgot to deduct my health insurance premium!! What a moron!! And this time of the year he mostly sits on his butt twiddling his thumbs all day long. Worst thing is, they made him a part-owner recently... :Dou: :Dou: :af: :spank:

    Sorry for the rant... :gt:

    David,

Try here, they are pretty reasonable, and if you are in good health, probably a better deal that what you were paying. I have used them for years. Pretty easy as well.

    Term

I used Select quote they were good

  4. I have actually looked into Zurich, but haven't contacted them directly yet. We have VERY good rates on term insurance thru the employer's benefits package, but they have changed carriers for the term ins policies, so I'll have to sign up with the current insurance company, whoever that is, if I sign up here again. My old policy was ok as long as I didn't want to make any changes to it. If I wanted to increase coverage, I would have had to switch to the current carrier.

I'm expecting to not be working here within a couple years, so I should look outside the employer's plan anyway, since I will lose eligibility for the optional term insurance when I leave the company.

    David,

Given your age, If you had perfect health and don't smoke, you would probably pay about $30 month for $500k, 10 year term, at Zurich.

I know that Fortis' group life insurance rates are high (if you are in good health), as that is who we use at my company (I don't use them though). Not sure about their individual plans.

But then again, most all "group" life insurance policies aren't a good deal if you have excellent health, unless the employer is paying part of the premium.

Since they essentially offer you a "blended" rate, they are usually a decent deal if aren't in good health, or are at the top end of an age bracket.
