gs clone

    last year i bought this 72 gs clone.it has a 455 form some car.how do i find out where this motor came from?also it came with a th350 and its blown reverse in both of them! i bought a th400 but i think its too long.it only cost me 250.00 for the car and 25.00 for the trannys.i really like the 455 and dont want to go back to a 350 so i really need some help here.$$$ is always an option the more it costs the less i have.the motor is completely stock so i can only go up

    I've used a TH350 in back of my 455 since '91. Driven 12 months a year until '98 and then half a year every year since. The original tranny went with 180K on it, but it was reverse that didn't work anymore.

    The TH400 is a better all around choice and yeah if you want or need to use it by all means do it


    The engine code is on the front of the block on mine, and also on a pad on the block under the driver's head. Check out the bellhousing flange, after a certain year (73 I think) they stamped "455" on the bellhousing flange's top.
