Anyone have any input on reproduced GS steering wheels? Are they up to standard in quality? What is needed to install one? Does anyone reproduce the center horn button?......... o No: .........Pops
the gs steering wheeels are being reproduced by a gentleman named duane heckman, his company is called"classic car interiors".the center buttons are currently not reproed.......www.classiccarinteriors.com
Actually, Duane only reproduces the special 1970 GSX steering wheels. I know of no one that does the regular GS rallye steering wheel. There are 2 different sizes, 1970 & earlier (16" diameter I believe) and 1971 and later (15" diameter I believe). The special 1970 GSX steering wheel used the smaller diameter wheel with a special thick rim. As with everything Duane reproduces, they are perfect in detail.
The '71 & later Buick GS steering wheel is same as the "70" Chevelle SS-Corvette strg wheel that was reproduced 4+ years ago. MuscleFactory in CA was first to sell them. A large vendor friend first recieved the repro's about 4 years ago. At the time, I had 4 near perfect "full grain" '71+ black "Buick" wheels & a '70 version. In comparing the repro to the originals, the grain pattern was definately off on the repro's. For Malibu owners turning their cars into puppymill "Chevelle SS's" :blast: can see the demand, but most folks I deal with, want the real deal for a wheel. :3gears: Roger
Yes, Year One does list them in their catalogue, however they are the 1971 and newer type 15" wheels. The original sport wheels for 69 and 70 GS's, except the special 70 GSX wheel, have a 16" diameter and they have never been reproduced that I know of. Duane
