A 100 hp less, but much more torque! Torque wins races.

A stock Tundra has 400 ft lbs of torque. I doubt a 4.8 had more torque than 400.

I was thinking about this last night. If Torque wins races then how come all those ET calculators ignore torque. Why don't they have an ET calculator based on the vehicles torque? How is Torque calculated anyway? And why does the TQ and HP curves on a dyno always cross at 5200? What about on a diesel that only turns 3 grand?

they calculate HP from the actual torque # i believe...

they probably have the ET calc's set up like that because everyone is so foolishly obsessed with HP they don't know their torque #'s:Do No:

The formula is Torque times Rpm divided by 5250

    That's pretty cool.

If you do it for a Cummins you only get 209 hp.

    610X1800/5250=209.14

How come that doesn't work? Does it have to be RW numbers?

the torque will curve downward on higher rpm's more like 550 x 3200/5250=335hp i guessed at the peak rpms and the amount of torque at that rpm but that is why peak torque is rated at low rpm and peak horse power is stated at a higher rpm but making less torque. that is because the closer you get 5250rpms the less torque matters in the the formula and when you get to rpm's well above 6000 rpms then even if your torque is only 400 you still will have 400*6000/5250=457hp. But that does not mean that the power under the curve is greater.

Here is a dyno sheet that jim had posted on one of his 350's. Try the formula on any one of those lines and you will see that it will be accurate. The first line is 371.8x3000/5250=212.457 The last line is 343.8*5300/5250=347.074 well it is a tenth off but who counts tenths of a horse power

Back to the Toyota Tundra for a minute. I bought an 08 this year.

I did meet up with a hemi at a light and he tried to take off fast and get in front of me. After he spun wheels taking off I punched my Tundra. Very little slip with traction control on. I ate his lunch and after I passed him he settled behind me and when I slowed way down he still would not pass me so that he wouldn't have to take any abuse.

One night I was out with my buddy and we were waiting at a light. This infinity g35 coupe got beside. Once again I was caught not paying attention and the g35 got the jump on me. I caught him before I hit 40mph and then proceeded to pull 3 car lengths on him before he decided to fall in behind me.

The Tundra is one hella truck.

But still you should win even if it has a few bolt ons. But stock to stock I would run any truck on the market.

    But you should still win.

I mostly agree with this, but my buddy found a use for one. Hit 153 MHP!
