OMG why in the world did they put an Oldsmobile motor in a Buick for?
    Just curious.

It has the big oil snout up front, so definately an Old's motor, I was wondering when I first got it why the Engine looked so "big". Oldsmobile.

Ok I'm trying to scrape all the crud off the intake to find out if it has 5A heads on it or whatever.
I'm just going to work w/the 307 for now, if something better down the road comes up, I'll look into it.

About the rear ends, has anyone got a definate way for me to tell what is under these 2 cars?

I'll have the 307/200r outta the LeS today, sometime.

    Get back at ya's later.

    haha

Alright people, I just took the LeS down the road, and I LOVE it!

If my Regal has at least the same amount of "movement" I'll be happy.
It done pretty dang good for a big ol car, I really like that 4speed auto trans, wow! I'll have to get a new carb or somethin, I suspect that this one needs medical attention.

Are you going to keep the computer controlled carb and distributor or are you going to switch to a non computer set up?

  4. s.pliskin

    s.pliskin newbie

well, the carb doesn't have any electrical junk on it.
And the Dist. doesn't look like it's electronic, I'm not sure though, couldn't get my cherry picker today, so I couldn't get the engine out.

    Let ya know more tomorrow.

Does the dist. have a vacuum hose that goes to it? You'll be in good shape if it does.

Sharky I'll get back w/ya on that one.

Will that THM350 Tranny I have in the Regal already, work w/that 307 Olds engine? or will the bellhousing not matchup?

I don't like the way that 200r4 shifts.

  7. sharkmonkey

sharkmonkey Give me something to hit!

Yes, the 350 will bolt to that engine.

Do you think I'll have to change the front springs?

    Can't wait to: :3gears:

    UPDATE 1
Thanx Alec, that sounds like a plan. I have the 3.8 ready to come out in the morning.
I intend to change all the gaskets(minus head) before putting it into the Regal. I also intend on pulling the AC/HEAT unit on the firewall.
    Install a floor shifter.
I am going to need to put a GN or CarbonFiber(or?) hood on it.

I'm taking my time, to do it right... still like to have it up at BeachBend before they shutdown for the season.

    My first project car. :beer

    springs

i would say put engine in and see if you like how it sits or if the tires you want to use will clear.
they will drop down some as olds motor is a bit heavier than the v6.

Ok, if I'm not mistaking on Olds V8, doesn't the bell housing pattern "peak" instead of a "bowing" pattern that I thought Chevy had?

Or is it vice versa, because the THM350 in the Regal has a "bow" to it, as does the 3.8.
If I'm remembering correctly(from years ago) the Olds has a peak to it, and thus will not line up w/the THM350? I could use the 200R4, but I think the Regal would "perform" better w/that thm350.

somethins not working right on the Buick site today.

If the TH350 is bolted to a Buick V6 it will bolt to the Olds 307. I understand the TH200C and TH200 R4 has a dual Chevy V8 and BOP bell housing pattern.

Ok, great, the tranny was the original in the Regal w/the 3.8V6.

I have the 3.8 pulled and the tranny seperated from it ready to shineup, and "tuneup".
Lovin it so far, and all I done is pulled the dead combo.

I'll be prepping the engine bay and removing a whole mess of things from it.
I've seen in pics the heater/blower box and everything removed. I'd like to do that also.

I would also like to stick a lighter hood back on it to cap it off, maybe a carbon/fiber (we) w/the T type/GN buldge goin on.
Anyone know where I can get one at?

Also, can you use roller lifters/rockers w/a hydrolic cam?

When I pull the 307 (next week sometime) I'll be replacing all the gaskets except the Head gaskets. I'm thinking I should replace the oil pump and the oilpump drive shaft, rebuild the distributer(?), flush the block/coolent system,
the carb's gonna need rebuilt/or adjusted, not sure yet which one, I know it's not working properly.

Can anyone add/modify to this list and make sure I'm starting off on the right foot, this is my first "build" and it's not much, but I still want to do it right w/what I'm working with.

    more to come...

    regal swap

to use roller lifters you will need a roller cam .
pricy for any engine.you can use roller rockers but most arent cheap for old motors either. i did use a set of crane rockers that where 1.6 ratio from summit racing and they where less than 100 bucks. came with pedastals
and no adjusting needed like most rollers.suggest a good cam, edelbrock intake and if you can find 350 heads, maybe 403 heads too, will bolt on and will act like a killer port job on the 307.the 307 heads have intake runners so small the wouldnt feed a lawnmower very well.

being that my engine is a "roller" engine, wouldn't it have a roller cam?

I can't wait to get started on it :D

    Sharky:
That distributer doesn't have the vacuum advance on it.
    Now what?

It looks like they put the 4bl Quad on the car also, I don't think it's original, I found all the connectors for the original electric carb laying on top of the intake manifold lol.

Well, I have the 307 sitting next to the 350THM and the 200R4.

This 200R4 DOES shift out good, any idea how much it would be worth?
I need to try to sell it so I can do some things to the 307/Regal body.

I also still have that 85 Lesabre body sitting here, I think I know a guy that will buy it offa me though, but if anyone is interested, let me know. It's gotta straight body on it, good glass.

  20. alec296

    alec296 i need another buick

    no vacuum advance

you either have to try to get computer to work on your engine or change dist and carb to not computer.
i might have a distbuter i would have to look
i would consider useing the 2004r as it has a deep first gear it will take off better with the 200 4r and have the fourth gear.
