Minding my own business out east on William Floyd Pkwy going north from the LIE, I see a newer BMW coming up on me - Im doing the speed limit (55 ... plus maybe a few) and he catches me, paces me, then romps it a few times o No: ou: and pretends he's on the autobahn continuing ahead at a much faster pace. While he was besides me, I saw the telltale hood bulge so I knew he had something mildly worth while underhood and that was confirmed by the M3 on the trunk. Ahead about 3/4 of a mile was a lite and my mantra of "Please turn red ... Please turn red ... Please turn RED" must have worked because it changed just in time for him to have to brake, while I got there about half way through its cycle. I could feel him looking over at me, wanting me to acknowledge his German High-tech pride but I figured I'd let my 42 year old low-tech do the talking at the green ... it was more than wispering "BlapadaBlapBlapadaBlapBlapadaBlap" to him while just sitting there ... and green it turned with my right hand holding first, I accelerated at about 3/4 throttle - enough to melt most cars into the rearview but he was still on my door which is what I wanted - I wanted to teach him High tech isn't always better. As the rev's climbed and he wasn't all in, I shifted into second at around 4500 thinking maybe this game isn't going to get played ? Maybe he was waiting for me, because The shift and change in my engine RPM is all it took for his engine come full on - and while it did and he pulled a fender on me I had a look at the tach and saw I still had about 1000 rpms left down first if I wanted it, and HECK YEAH !! I did !! Drop to first and almost as fast as back into second seeing the shift lite - thats all it took for me to pull that fender back and gain the same - then once in Second it was old skool doing the teaching ... about up to 5500 rpms of it for me to put a sold 5-6 cars on him and at about 75mph I got out and shifted into third. He stayed in it ... honking graciously as he passed at what must have been triple digits. If his pride wasn't a little wounded I know the M's was ... Me ? I had the taste of Bratwurst in my mouth for the rest of the morning while BigRed wore her first kill badge of the season - the 19th one we've been a team together
Nothing like letting it go at the Brookhaven lab light! Good job! I could of heard you from my house:TU:
Nice kill. Cant wait to get one this year. I never seem to find anyone that wants to play when I have my car out. :3gears:
If you get tired of your day job maybe you could find work as a story teller . Very nicely told and a great kill story. Have a good Memorial weekend.
Nice kill and well written to boot. It's good to see other 68/69 cars out there laying down the law :3gears:
I also get my kicks out of showing some yuppies what an "old car" can be all about and many don`t realize it until I`m at the next light, BUT, guys, let me remind you of a quote from Two Lane Blacktop: "It's too heavy to do in a Porsche just for kicks. We'd take him in a quarter mile but he'd probably lose us in long time." These cars are all-around machines, and are quite good in doing what they`re doing. I don`t like modern car styling too much, but seeing some of these cars (that goes for the modern muscles as well) with their amount of displacement going that fast is impressive......still, their style mostly sucks!
