Hi guys (and galls) My name is Eelco and I'm from the Netherlands. Last year, I bought myself a 1970 Riviera which sat in a chickenshed for almost 7 years. Before that, she was imported from California in 2000. Had her repainted last winter, vinyl top removed and the front bumper rechromed including the grill. New front windshield, because the old one had a huge deal of pitting. I'll keep it as a spare. There was no rust, just some minor parking dents to be repaired (from opening doors). The old paint was really dead and I had to buff it every weekend. She has 53k on the odometer so far. Interior is not new, some wear on old stitches, that have desintegrated. Mainly on headliner and some on the front and rear bench seat. She runs on regular gas and propane. Propane is much cheaper but really decreases the output severely. Only thing I'm still looking for is a nice grill emblem. Mine should be restored to make it really show quality again. Sorry, I can't post any pics yet, since the forum is very strict on first posters...I just found that out.....bummer.... Welcome dude. This place is the ultimate source for every thing about your car. Put an ad in the "Parts wanted" section.
Another '70 owner. :TU: I'd like to see pics too! It doesn't take long to rack up 10 posts, and then you can post the pictures. Those grille emblems are a needle in a haystack. On the rare occasion a NOS one pops up on eBay, they fetch a couple hundred dollars! I could use a new one too. But not that badly. :beer Welcome!
Welcome ! to one of the best Buick sites on the internet. Lots of 2nd generation Riviera fans here - check out the Riviera Owners Association (ROA) when you get a chance. www.rivowners.org Good luck, and enjoy your '70 Riviera ! :beer :TU:
Thnx guys! I've put a fair ampunt of money and time in my baby, since I'm planning on keeping her for a very long time. I get so much positive reactions at gasstations, parkinglots, everywhere. People address you very soon when you drive a rare classic car. Only 4 exist in Holland and another one is so rusted away, it is beyond restoration. The guys drives it through winter, rain, salty roads etc. It has rusted through within a couple of years. While it once was in mint condition. Sorry for the big pics, I do not know how to resize them here. Was hoping they would show up cropped, and that you could click on them for an enlarged view. But...now you see all the details! This is her with the old vinyl roof before resto. A little sound clip of what she sounds like http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v185/Bowtie/?action=view¤t=P8241066.flv The exhaust tips are from a Jeep Cherokee SRT8. Modded the tail lights and installed bright chrome alu tape, and the light out put increased a lot! These are the normal taillights, so not the brake lights!
Beautiful!! I do like what you did with the front license plate... A Nethercali plate huh??
Hi there!! I'm also from the Netherlands (but way down south) Haven't posted here before, but I should get round to doing that. I've got a '73 Buick Century Gran Sport 350 coupe that I'm working on right now. Anyway, I remember your car!!! It was imported around by a now defunct company called Memory Lane Classics in Sittard. 2 Close friends of mine worked there until they closed around 4 or 5 years ago. The shop owner lives in California and he always bought cars in Cali. Even back when he lived in The Netherlands he'd often go there to buy fifties and sixties cars. I can remember I even drove that Riv out of (and in to) the workshop a couple of times. It already had a real nice rumble to it back then. Didn't it also have some kind of big straight chrome exhaust pipes running out the back? Only thing I'm not sure of are those rims. I don't know if they were already on the car back then, I think so, but I'm not quite sure.. Greetings Erik
Welcome, the paint job sure is nice. I followed your restoration on the Dutch Buick Club board. Greets, Michel from the Netherlands.
