I had some trouble removing the harmonic balancer bolt. Impact driver wouldn't budge it...crank turned etc. Found this method in this forum. It works! Thanks!

    Chris,

If the heads are still on the engine, you could insert a piece of nylon rope into the sparkplug hole (Make sure piston is traveling in compression stroke)

With the engine in the car, it's much easier. Just attach a breaker bar and socket to the bolt, and lay the end of the breaker bar, on the floor, on the driver's side of the balancer. Then crank the starter motor in short bursts. Works every time. I like the hammer method though.

Just remember to pull that out before you put the pan back on..:Dou:

LOL! I actually laughed out loud at that one.
That would be kind of hard to forget about dontcha think?
Unless of course, you have the 75 quart, front sump, oil pan.
Then it would slip right over it. :pp

I usually loosen the crank bolt before the belts are removed and DEFINETLY before removing the sparkplugs. The Alt. belt gives me something to hold onto. Never have a prob this way...:Do No: One of the last bolts to be torqued on re-assembly also..

1/2" breaker bar and 1 1/8" DEEP socket
