I'd like to know what that "VIR" is. I don't make any sense out of the acronym. It APPEARS to be a receiver/dryer look-alike, but I don't give recommendations on appearance.
GM cars from about 73 to about 78 used a VIR assembly (Valves In Receiver). The unit contained the Expansion Valve, POA Valve and also performed the functions of the Receiver/Dryer. Pre-73, all 3 parts were separate units. The Ebay kit is an eliminator kit. It removes the VIR assembly and turns the system into a Cycling Clutch/Orifice Tube system, like most late model vehicles. It's the same concept as the POA eliminator kits available for pre-73 cars. I've never used one of these kits and usually stay away from the POA kits, too. However, unlike the stand alone POA Valve in the older cars, the valve in the VIR is not adjustable for R134a. This makes VIR equipped cars poor candidates for use with R134a. This kit "might" help with that. If you plan to stay with R12, have the old VIR rebuilt. That kit would actually be a downgrade to the system. Look at the bottom of this page for some VIR info: http://www.classicautoair.com/GM_OEM_Parts_Valves.html
