Hey all, Decided to swap to headers when I do an engine freshen-up. That is if I can get the manifolds off. Being new to the Buick small block, am I looking for a specific type, or will any GM small block header bolt up? I'm not familiar with the cylinder head bolt pattern(s) and all that yet. Haven't decided long-tube or shorty yet. Doesn't really matter to me, but the shorty's might bolt right up to my existing exhaust without too much fab work. I'm not looking to race this thing and the HP\TQ of 1 5\8" headers is fine with me. I know the intake should go as well, but that's a whole other ball of $$ wax. Thanks!
Headers need to be Buick 350 specific, I think only long tube are available (no shorties). unless you roll your own.
If you can find them and afford them regular headers will provide better general drivablity by producing more torque along with better top end.
Long tube headers are all that’s available. Ta performance has header flanges if you want to build your own.
I've never seen a shorty header for a Buick 350. Long tube headers are available from T/A or Doug's Headers or you may find Poston or Hooker headers used. But definitely Buick 350 specific headers only if you have a Buick 350 in there.
While I'm sure ANYTHING can be done with enough fabrication, the front tube on most SBC headers turns out of the head and heads back well before it would intersect the Buick flange.
chevy flange bolts 90* to the ground. buick flange bolt 45* to the ground. that makes the flange and header pipe a little wierd. but when/if you cut the pipe at an angle it will be a little closer in exhaust matching with a new flange. if the headers are 1.5'', the stock manifolds/dual exhaust would be better. all depends on looks vs performance
Look at the headers, I posted. Move that gasket out an inch and down 1/2" and tell me how well that gasket lines up?
That gasket is a little higher on the ports of the Buick manifold. Johnny is spot on for the angle difference. It has been done with 1 5/8" Chevelle headers in a Skylark years ago.
A dual plane and headers on a stock 350 or even a mild cam and overbore 350 is maybe 25 real HP,...for $1300,....spend that on a 2004r trans swap,..that will provide way more performance that you can actually feel
Now yer talkin'! 3.42's scream at 70mph. I sure coulda used one on Power Tour. I can always have a cracked manifold welded to take care of the annoying exhaust leak.
You could gain as much as half a second in the 1/4mile with the 200r and gain around 6mpg around town and possibly 10 on the interstate
What I lost in the 60 ft with the trans and less stall I made up for that by the 1/8 mile so did not go any faster or slower actually gained mph on the nitrous shot using 2004r Lower 1st gear made that happen, and the lockup feature drops rpm to 2200 at 70 on highway with 373 gear and 275-60-15 tires 28" tall need a 410 now. Single plane that 350 it is better.
