There is a gentlemen on Ebay that goes by the name MR BUICK NAILHEAD. He is out of Ft. Atkinson,Wisconsin. He sells these new HEI distributors. They are 65,000 volts and they are all new, they look very nice.Cost is $320.00, does anyone have any experience with this guy? Thanks!
Almost certainly Chinese-based. I'd be asking about the country-of-origin; and I'd want the response in writing, signed and dated. The "65,000 volt" coil is suspect, too. 1. The coil won't put out any more voltage than is required to complete the circuit (fire the plug gap). 2. The OEM coil was advertised at 50,000 volts, but if you actually checked, if the ignition system NEEDED that much voltage, the cap would be melted and the plugs looked like death warmed over.
buy a msd dist for your nailhead for that price. i love my msd setup.. paul 66larkgs turbo 401 nailhead
I dont have any experience with this product but I can vouch for this vendor`s character. Gene is one of the good guys and I am confident he would stand behind his product. :TU: Tom Mooney
Link? If he can convert a SBC one to fit the Nailheads, I don't see why anybody else couldn't. Unless he is cutting the shaft and resizing it, or machining it to fit. Do you happen to know what all is involved?
I was digging around for some info regarding an HEI for a nailhead and came up with this thread. There now seems to be additional sources for HEIs on ebay and the price is considerable lower than the first posted $320. Does anyone have any info on these ones? Any preference? I'd find out who makes it. I watched a fellow nearly burn down a nice 4x4 with a Procomp dist. Cap didn't fit right, index was found "off" later. He had timing retarded enough to backfire the carb and the resultant spark lit it up. I had him crank the key to try to suck the flame "in" while I did the 100 yard dash for an extinguisher. His battery was weak, so when I made it back he had used his new Harley leather jacket to slow things up. Hoping that little ext. did the trick... Yep, that was worth saving $100. ou: Also found out how out of shape I was sprinting 200 yards while holding my breath (seemingly). Either way no matter what you buy, look everything over closely. The entire industry is going through changes to inspections and streamlining the manufacturing process. [edit, I should have read the rest of the thread first, sorry]
Just do this it is a gm dist with ford pickup that fires a chevy 4 pin module. Not a complicated job for a guy with a lathe, I have done many for a ford Flathead. You use your existing dist from your nailhead. http://futom.tripod.com/id127.htm W
I have used Dave's HEI converted HEIs in several motors I have built. He does good work for a favorable price.
I've had no problems with mine. Mike Phillips of AMP was impressed with the hei dist. that I supplied him with and thought it as well made. Gene sent me a list of every component that he used. All of the components are from NAPA.
I sent a message to the vendors for these three units asking where they were made, and who made them.
