"Yes" I'm new here and would like to say that this site is a great source for all things Buick. I'm a bit past middle age and have owned some 55 cars since high school but, never owed a Buick. I'm currently eye-ing over a 63 with a rebuilt 425 Nailhead and rebuilt Hydor-glide transmission. The car has app. 40,000 miles, no rust, no body damage, original paint (weathered) and was a one owner car that was recently sold at an estate auction. I've listened to it run and "WOW" who ever re-built the engine must of put some goodies in it as it has a definite rumble and when you hit the gas it rocks the whole car! Anyway I'm currently educating myself about these cars and am a bit concerned about the old Hydro-glide transmissions. I ramble......if I get it I'll post a few pics. and thanks again for a "Great" site!
Lesabre....sorry about that. It needs a heater core and new air conditioner pump, the guy has a new heater core but never installed it. I will be trading a 1980 Silverado short bed for it if all goes as planned. Oh, it also needs a new muffler but, I'll have a duel 2 1/2" system installed with 1970 Cadillac mufflers as I want it as quite as possible but still be able to breath well. Is there quirks I need to be aware of on this model / year?
My wife and I are starting to enjoy it we are transplants from Denver, Colorado and have been here going on 10 years now. At first we were a bit apprehensive but, it grows on you.
In 63 the Lesabre wasn't offered with the 425, and the transmission should a dynaflow. If it is a 425, it was added somewhere in the past. It is the largest Nailhead produced, and is an awesome engine. As you have noticed, the combination of a Nailhead and a Dynaflow produces a car with incredible low-end torque. I really like the dynaflow, and it is thought to be very reliable. Enjoy that car!
