Help pick the color of my car. I think Im going to take the plunge and do the $50 Paint Job. I will probably take a summer plus. Im going to do it one panel at a time for various reasons. The car is a 70 GS clone, with a Stage II hood scope and black interior. It has a vinyl top but I plan to pull it off. Please go to the following web page and pick a color. http://www.discountmarinesupplies.com/Interlux_Topside_Paints-INTERLUX_BRIGHTSIDE_TOPSIDE_PAINT.html Red 4248 White 4359 Medium Blue 4353
I voted White. If you're going to go with the $50 paint job, a lighter color would be your best bet, as it won't show imperfections like a darker color would.
4241 Sapphire blue, hard to tell by a small chip. JMHO , I panited my Corvair a GM color code # 023 . it was a color on the IROC Camaro in 87- 88. if it will help I could post a couple of photos.
Dean I have heard white is more forgiving when sprayed onI imagine this holds true to the roller version. The body on my car is solid and good minus the door dings and such.
I vote 4316 Bark Blue...Too many red cars, white is blah...and that blue doesn't do it...But,it'sw your car to do with what you want to it...Curious as to the original color???
I agree with racerx88, white will hide alot of imperfections. I personally like the med blue idea, but its your car dude. I would personally wait, save the money and have someone paint it. Or maybe one of your fellow Buick brothers would be willing to throw in a helping hand to help offset the cost?:idea2: Listen bro, if I was closer I would gladly help you shoot the car, but its a shame I live in the Empire state. Good luck with the ride!
I hear you Jason but I can not justify the kind of money a real paint job would cost. I teach middle school and work all most all summer teaching "teacher workshops" and every third weekend during the year. This "mad money" for the car is to go fast and some day get light under the the tires.
There is a lot of info about the 50 dollar paint job. Apparently you can get surprisingly good results.
I was walking thru AUTO ZONE and see they sell a cheap Lacquer system plus summit sells paint on the cheap. There are options.
I'm with Dean, white will hide problems better. I read an article that hot rod or someone did where they did the $50 paint job on a falcon. It came out way better than you would expect. Very labor intensive to get it to come out not looking like a roller paint job though. I think after reading the article that for the amount of work that went into this cheap paint job, you could work for minimum wage, work as many hours as they put into the paint job, save some money, do a little prep work and get a cheap maco paint job that would be better.
Dave I read that article also. The original desire to do that (roller method) is fading. I'm more in the mood to get it up and running again and beat the hell out of it.
Ok man, heres my opinion. Dont limit yourself to those three colors because honestly, your gonna be putting so much time into this little 50 dollar paint job that by the end, your gonna want to make sure its the color YOU want. I did it to my car myself. Ive seen it come out great in ALL colors and I did mine in black and it still showed up great, and the body wasnt near perfect. Tips: DO VERY VERY VERY oh yeah...VERY thin coats at a time, trust me, it may seem like a waste of time, but it makes it come out WAY better. use mineral spirits to thin it out, it should be like the consistency of milk. Only use the nice foam rollers, a little more expensive, but definitely worth it. You shouldn't have really fully covered your car/panel until at least the 4th coat. And if you can, have someone follow your strokes right behind you with a dry roller on about the last 3 coats, results come out a lot better. I only used about a quarter of a gallon to do my ENTIRE riv, so you dont really need that much. Any questions or anything PM me.
Are you kidding? 1/4 a gallon is like 1 quart of paint about $7 You borrow the rollers ? Were talking enamel right or the paint may wash off if your stuck in the rain
Yeah man thats really all I used...and it was in the dead of winter, drove it two days after the final coat was polished...in the rain. Maybe its just the thinning out with mineral spirits that makes it go such a long way heres a picture of the secong and final coart, sorry their the only ones i got. Also, I eventually got it actually sprayed somewhere, and i sprayed right over with no primer or chemical reactions, this was rustoleam mind you.
