Just picked up a 1965 GS drop top, 4 speed. My question will probably sound dumb but can anyone tell me where the switch is to operate the top? Can't seem to find it. The top is down and I would like to put it up.

    Thanks

    Nice ride!!!

Not sure but they probably weren't all power. Look in the trunk for pistons and fluid resouiver. If you don't see them then just put it up manually.

Looks like they forgot to put one on there so you should probably sell that car to me. :Brow:

Ok.. actually here is where the switch should be. If you look at the picture I'm attaching, behind the steering wheel there should be a round switch that turns to the left or right.

On a serious note.. if or when you are ever ready to sell that car... please remember your ole buddy Chris... please?

    Chris,
Thanks for the help. I did see the switch but since it was labeled accessory I did not relize it was for the top. :Dou:

My 70 GTO convertible has a switch that is labeled Top up/down.

If and when I do sell this car I will surely keep you in mind!!

    Thanks again for the help....

OK, now that I know where the switch is I have a follow up question. The top does not work, when I move the switch to the up position there is no movement. Not even a sound like the motor is receiving any voltage. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting. So far I did check the fuse and there is power to both sides so I guess the fuse is OK.

    Thanks for any help!!

Go back to the pump (located behind the rear seat in the trunk) and unplug the harness to it.

Use a test light and plug each probe end into the car side of the harness.

Have someone now turn the switch and you should see if the light turns on.

If the light does not turn on, then you might have a short in the wire or a bad switch.

If it does then it's probably a bad pump motor.

My car is in storage right now so I can't confirm if you need the key turned on in the accessory position so I'd try it both ways.

Give her a try and let us know what you come up with.

I know it's been a while but I finally got around to testing the top. I hooked up the test light and I did get it to light up both in the up and down position. I now removed the motor and tried it on the bench. When I applied 12 volts to the motor it did turn on but it seemed that it would not be strong enough to move any fluid. Can anyone advise on how the pump should perform on the bench so I can baseline my pump?

    Thanks for the help.
