 Here is the prob. I am trying to install my tranny onto my engine so I can put them in the car. It is the first time I am doing this and am running into a pain in the a*# problem. There is a key washer about 1/4" wide inside the tranny that the end of the torque converter is supposed to align with to slide on all the way and engage properly. The problem is I cannot get it to align correctly when I slide the tranny on. I already have the torque converter mounted to the flywheel and am just basically guessing by moving the key washer to where the marks on it and the toruq conv. will line up, but can never get it to go on. Anyone out there know what I am talking about, and know a better way to do this? I am new so I don't have any other ideas. Thanks.:Do No:

you need to pull the converter off of the flywheel and install it in the tranny. then install the tranny in the car and slide the converter forward and bolt it back to the flywheel.
otherwise, you could end up doing MAJOR damage to either or the both of them.
    rotsa ruk!!

    Ron,
Yuk is right, you must install the converter onto the input shaft of the transmission, and then bolt the trans to the engine. If the converter is new, you should pour a quart of trans fluid into the converter, before you try to install it. Installing a new converter onto a transmission can be a frustrating experience. You need to push the converter onto the input shaft, turn it, then push again, turn it, push, until it is fully seated into the transmission. When it is fully seated, the mounting surface of the converter(to flywheel) will be at least 1/2" inside the bell housing. This can take awhile to do because you have to line up several different splines. When the converter seats fully, it will be obvious, don't be discouraged, if it doesn't happen right away. Performance converters sometimes can be a real pain to seat. It will be nearly impossible to do this with the converter attached to the flywheel. Good luck.
