Dave are the copper header gaskets or to use with the W Z manifolds. Shhhh please don,t tell anyone I have "header" parts on my car :Dou:

I have no experience with copper exhaust gaskets, but have very successfully used the composite ones in the gasket sets. Machining and metallurgy was so good on these cars initially that no gaskets were used from the factory. Those days are long gone.

Put the shiny side toward the heat (manifold). Be careful, there are two sizes to these. The later wheezer Olds V8's have small exhaust ports whereas the good ones are much larger. usually both types are in the gasket sets. Give the small ones to the Buick 350 guys. They won't notice the difference

    ???????Huh??????

If the late model heads are considered "wheezer" heads with the smaller
exhaust ports, why did Edelbrock pattern the aftermarket aluminum heads
more closely to the "wheezer" heads?
Maybe the larger ones aren't really the good ones :Do No:

    BTW,
here is a waste removal technicians dream :3gears:

    Noel,

Get the Mr. Gasket Ultra seal gasket. Works great and is actually big enough to not interfere with the port exit from the head. :TU:

    Tom:

No idea what Edelbbrocks were patterned after, but the 350 and 307 heads used on the last Olds V8's had tiny intake and exhaust ports. I doubt Edelbrock copied that. On one of the many rebuilds of my car, one of the new smaller gaskets got mistakenly installed on the RH manifold. You could actually hear the difference n the exhaust tone of that side of the engine. When we found it and pulled it out, the carbon trace was about 1/8 of an inch on 3 sides of the openings and 1/4 inch on the one side. I'm sure some young mathematical genius could compute that reduction in cross sectional area. And a really good one could compute the effect on CFM flow, cylinder packing, enthalpy, entropy, global warming, and other high tech stuff.

There is a point of dimnishing returns in port size where the lower velocity of the larger ports actually falls off. Olds 350's were found to flow better and make more horsepower with 2 inch intake valves than 2.07's in the stock W31 's (with headers like all Olds development on W31/W30). This is with the standard port size small block heads used up through the #8's (before they got into the 3A,4A, 5A, 8A etc. wheezer heads.

    Hey Zudo, where's your flathead?

    My '52 F6 isn't a garbage truck.....but it does have wheezer ports.

It needs exhaust manifold gaskets too........I tried Olds ones but it still leaked. :Do No:
