holley jets versus metering rods

Has anyone used holley jets in a 4-barrel Q-jet versus the metering rods? I changed my 2-barrel (1/2 a Q-jet) over and it works fine but was wondering if the same combo will work OK on a 4 barrel version. Thanks

    1. The threads are different, if you screw Holley jets into a Rochester you're going to destroy the threads. Why not just buy Q-jet style jets?

    2. Metering rods are superior to Holley's on/off power valve. Metering rods allow a range of mixtures based on vacuum (load); the power valve has a lean and a rich setting with nothing in between.

    3. Are you saying that you take the metering rods OUT and don't replace them? I hope not; you'd be full-rich all the time. Your fuel economy and emissions would both be terrible.

    1. Yes the threads are alittle different but once you screw the holley jets in if you need to change the jets the next ones screw in OK. I didn't buy Q-jet style jets because I had a bucket of holley jets to work with.
    2. I obtained the correct mixture using different jet sizes, two 53 jets worked fine
    3. Yes I took the metering rods out along with the small spring clip that holds them. I left the hanger in the carb. I don't have any idea what the emissions are (there is no check here in Bowling Green, Ky) but my fuel economy is the same that it was with the metering rods installed except that I have a 3:73 gear now versus the 2:56 orginal gear. The carb has been set up this way for the past three years with no problems. I race it every weekend. I'm not saying this is the way to go but its the way I went. I was just wondering how it would work on a 4-barrel carb.

Not that I would do it, but if it works on the DualJet (the half-a-Q-jet), I don't see why it wouldn't work on a Q-jet
