Should GM A Body hood latches be plated Clear Zinq or Gray Phosphate? Going to my plater next week and looking at old finish it is hard to tell. Anyone know for sure? Thanks
Rich The hood latches were actually yellow zinc plated. Check for cracks and have it welded before you get it plated. Dave
Here's the extra one I have. tdatcon does have first dibs on it. But if he decides not to get it, I'll put it up for sale here.
Do the latches need to be totaly disassembled to get plated? How do you clean them inside? I would love to get mine done if yours is not for sale anymore. :Brow:
Thats why i asked where i can send them to get done, cause i dont know who does this type of work, maybe someone who`s done it can tell us where to send them to? Thanks
George- Jim W does a run of these every so often. He did mine and it came out great. He also does the boosters too. :TU: Mike- You don't have to disassemble it.
I used Medina Plating in Medina, OH. They have a $35 minimum, and the part must already be clean and ready to go. These cannot be taken apart as they are assembled with giant pop rivets. I'm actually looking into possibly doing an exchange program. You send me yours, and I send you one all done and ready to go.
Is the cad correct for all years (69)??? And I would be really intrested in an exchange program or a cad run.... Michael
Cad. Plated Hood Latches. I have never seen a cadmium plated hood latch on an A body Buick. Can anyone point me to a GM reference that confirms that they may have been on some of the A body cars as I think they look good but will not plate mine without some sort of verification. Rick
Under the screws that held my '68 GS hood latch on you could see the cad plating. I think others have posted photos of their latches that you could see the original plating on.
