    Fellow V-8 Buick members:

One is seeing more and more
articles on rodders who are using
straight 6 and straight 8 engines
    in their rods.

Is anyone aware of a definitive article/book
on the topic of hopping-up the Buick Straight 8...?

Could be a real fun build in an open roadster
    or some such other iteration...

    Thanks,
    Ed

I'm thinking about getting my hands on a 320 CI or two to rat rod. How about two of these end-to-end out front? What about two straights 8 side-by-side in a 65 degree V to form a V-16? Wouldn't that be cool? :3gears:

i say get some custom forged pistons, and slap a turbo on it!

strait/inline engines are the best for turbos as theyre already broad powerband gets more broad!

Inliners.org is a good source for inline engines research with a good group of people in the forums.Altough mostly for the sixes,I have seen discussions on the Buick straight eights there.Check them out, good people.

I have thought about a Buick straight 8 in a street rod and thought about it some more.
Very cool engine, the problem is the proportions.
That is a lot of extra length in front of the firewall for a Model A or something like that.

I think it would be very very cool but it is going to take someone with more artist in them than me to figure out how to make it look right.

I may take a stab at it some day.
It's a cool engine and I love vintage unusual engines in street rods.
A cool street car is more about presentation than power.

    Presentation and sound.

Well, presentation, sound, and enough power to play around a bit.

There was a guy at the BCA nationals who builds inline 8 racing engines. Modified intakes with 4 V carbs, custom headers, etc.
Name is John Hemmingway in Webster City Iowa. Very cool looking engine he had on display.

I believe California Bill's hop up book from the 50's covered hop ups on those engines back in the day as well as the as the chevy stovebolt six. I see those books on ebay quite a bit. There wasn't and isn't much available for those engines, and what was available for performance was for the 320 engine only because the 320 is longer than the 248 and 263 engines.

Unfortunately it breaks a rod in the end, but it sounds wicked
