How do I tell if it is a Cobra Mustang?

I have heard that the new Cobra Mustangs are very fast, fast enough to be considered threats to some of our Buicks.

I was on the interstate the other day, and started playing with a car that looked like a Cobra Mustang (I was guessing because of the big airscoop thingy in my rearview mirror), but I was toying with him like a little baby. He was definately trying, but I figure that it couldn't have been a Cobra because it would have been pretty good competition (I think).

So how do I tell if I am up against a Cobra?

A quick way is to look for the round fog or driver lights.

When you see them in your rear view, it was a Cobra.

    Good Luck!

The new GT's (and some sixers) have a Boss 429 style scoop. It was probably a GT. The easiest way to tell a cobra is by the hood and the fog lights. The hood has a rear facing scoop (like a GT40, to that effect) where the hood slides down into a scoop at the front of the hood. Kind of hard to explain. The front facia also has round fog lights in oversized holes. The rear bumper will say COBRA of course. This is what you need to watch out for:

Nevermind the BIG COBRA emblem on the side, but sometimes those can be difficult to see at night or from a bad angle. 12's for 35k aren't bad either (for a new car, that is) but I'd rather have a GN that ran 12's for 15k. But, other than the random daily driver (shoot me, its an import) I can't think of a car newer than 87 that I really want.

I jsut got done riding in one of those this weekend... its a fun lil car. The owner (friend of teh family) has already sunk some $$ into the motor, got some head porting done, headers, and hes running a few pounds more boost on the blower. I cao0uldnt tell you exactly how fast it was (he's never had it at the track) but my seat of the pants meter says its fast. Id definitely consider these a threat, I know it'd spank my 67.

    Right on, Clint!

From what's been described, I think I was just against a GT.

Anyhow, I will be looking for:

    - Wider foglight openings
    - A hoodscoop with a rear-facing opening
    - A snake thingy on the back

Does the "COBRA" on the side appear on all Cobras? Or is that optional?

Also, I have no idea what GT40 means or what a Boss 429 scoop looks like (sorry I don't know my Mustangs that well), I'll just look for the rear-facing opening thing.

Sorry to beat a dead horse...

I saw an Autoweek article that claimed the '03 Cobra could do 13.3 @ 106 in the 1/4 mile. Is that true? I thought these were 12 second cars off the showroom floor.

(I am speaking of 100% stock Cobras, I know they can be easily modified)

What does a 100% stock Cobra run in the 1/4 mile?

there's a video floating around with a Cobra vs. Viper GTS (i think it's a GTS) and the Cobra spanked the hell out of it.. i think it was a 10 second race too... so they were both modded pretty heavily. but ya.. look out.. these are quick little devils... i wouldn't mind having one.. if it were given to me heh

One of the local Ford dealers was selling a Cobra with 535 REAR WHEEL Hp. It was a special factory setup. It was lowered, had bigger tires and wheels, big exhaust and a whole list of options including the dyno sheet. It was a black coupe and I think it was a six speed. The asking price was $35,000. I tried to sit in it and it was pretty cramped but it sure sounded and looked good. One of the local big money guys bought it but I haven't seen it around on the street yet. Mike D.

Actually went against a stock GT last Sat and he turned a 13.44 as I recall. All stock and a good driver. Nice guy and he has a 10 sec. 70 Mustang that is race only. BS'd with another guy in line driving a stock Cobra. He turned consistant 12.6's with traction problems. From what I hear, these are pretty common times for these cars.

I have an issue of Mustang Muscle, 2003 Cobra with F150 Lightning blower pulley, front sway bar removed and slicks went 11.45 in the 1/4.
no other mods to the car. Don't know about you but that's Quick for a car that can be driven daily with decent mileage. Stock with that setup was 425hp:confused: I had a 99 cobra convert and I had a blast with that car.:Brow:
