How do YOU support this board?

  1. The V8Buick board has become THE place on the internet to find and share information about our Beloved Buicks. And it is also the best place to find parts at non-ebay prices, and to sell parts to guys you know and trust. All because Jim Weise and Mike Bucy were willing to put this free forum out here, at their own expense, when the need became evident. We've all "profited" from this board in one way or another, whether thru access to the free-flowing information, or by selling parts here in a pretty darn safe environment, especially compared to ebay.

And yet, when I went to read the Board Financial forum before signing off for the night, I was disappointed to see that our donor list is still pitifully small. Yes, Jim is determined to keep this a free board, supported only by voluntary donations and a few advertisers, even if it is at the expense of his business at times. That doesn't mean it is right to simply let Jim and a few donors bear the burden of financial support. Jim isn't a rich man, I'm not, most of us aren't. But most of us can afford to make a small annual donation to help offset the operating expenses here. I browse the for sale forums frequently, and let me tell you, there are many here that sell plenty of stuff, that have never donated to the board's operating expenses. I'm not saying it is an intentional decision to never donate, but more likely just doesn't occur to some of us that there might be a need.

So, what have you gained by using V8Buick.com? Knowledge? Profit on sales? How about making a small donation to help offset the expenses here? Whether it is $5, $20 or $50, every dollar makes a difference. Let's give something back.

Donations can be sent via Paypal to jim@trishieldperf.com

    Or by mail to:

    Tri-Shield Performance
    3001 Upton Ave N
    Mpls, Mn. 55411

Make the check out to V8Buick

We have and will go on contributing to V 8 !! Where else can you go and get advise , buy and sell , and have a few laughs .

I have never understood how we can have so many members , but so few that contribute to the board also .

I feel everyone can put some pocket change in a jar , so why not give a little back .....

But again this is a free board per JW and Mike , but I have never had them return my money !

    For what it's worth .........................:pp

Come on guys !!!!! :TU: :TU:

P S I just sent a little something via Pay Pal .... Yes it is working fine :Smarty:

Since I signed onto this board last April I have learned more about my car and how not to waste money on it than I could have in years of attending club events. Not only do we have an excellent source for finding parts at a reasonable price but we can find information here that will save us from making costly mistakes.

Where else can you go to ask a question about a 35 year old car and get such honest and timely responses from so many experts, who aren't trying to sell you something, that you can refer back to as you need? Club newsletters are great but it could be a month after you've spent $$$ that an article appears that could have saved you from doing it wrong. Here, all you have to do is ask and the solution will usually be there in a matter of minutes.

I would not want to run anybody off for not contributing. Even those who sell parts for profit help us in keeping our old cars looking and running good but...I would like to see a feature that includes some kind of icon for contributors so we could know if a seller is helping out or not.

Anti up guys!!! It doesn't have to be much and it's the best investment you can make as a Buick Collector.

I have made my tithing donation

I was fortunate enough to be able to sell several parts and thought a great way to share with this board was to "tithe".
Look it up in webster.com 1/10 of your income from parts could go to this board. With that in mind, I sent a donation and a major thanks to RJW for giving us this board. I think "tithing" might be the rule of thumb for people who sell things using this board as advertising or to selling through.IMO

Bruce I will second that, and you forgot to mention that you can meet some great people as well!

I have had several members who have volunteered to go look at cars for sale for me, and then did a completely thorough inspection of them (more thorough than I am), spend an hour on the phone with me going over the car (Thanks Phil and Jeff!) and send me great digital photos!

Not to mention all the advice I have gotten and friendships I have developed since I joined the board this spring. I am sure my employer wouldn't appreciate all the time I spend here, but hey, I am still getting my work done!

Anyway, I hadn't contributed yet, shame on me! I just sent $50 to Jim, keep up the good work.

Does spending a Buick-load of cash at Tri-Shield Performance count:gt: This is where I came to learn about Buicks, what a great website! I also own a bunch of other "different" cars that require the use of similarly dedicated message boards. I must say that this is one of the most friendly, prompt, and accurate out there.

So.....you guys have shamed me in to donating specifically to the site:Dou:

It's time I send V8BUICK a donation too. Thanks for reminding me. :)
I feel I have "somewhat" donated with the making of all the clocks for the site pretty much at cost, but it's still not the same.
I would say that equates to about 60 hours of work for almost free, that can translate into some profit for the board indirectly.
But my "real" donation will be on it's way soon. :TU:

    Interesting bit of trivia though......
If you do a little nosing around in the member info area of this forum, you'll find that out of the 3000+ members signed up, there's about 100 PAGES of members (over 1000 members) that have NEVER posted a message. Some dating back to Feb 2002.
I didn't go on to see how many have only posted once or twice.
I would venture a guess that most of those "non-posting members" were either "sign-up mistakes" or people that only stopped by once and haven't returned.
Just thought you should know that, especially if someone was getting ready to say something like:
"out of 3000+ members, only 30 have donated.. thats only like 1%"
    :gt:

It appears that good portion of the "regulars" have made donations. :TU:

  14. Great responses guys!

I just hope no one here took my comments personally. Not everyone that uses the board has cash to spare at any given time. And some "donate" in other ways as well. And I'm guessing some may not even be aware of how the board is funded! I don't think the need is as great as during the first year, since Jim is now taking some advertising too, but I'm sure that doesn't pay the majority of the expenses. We can all do our own little part by sending a little dough Jim's way from time to time, even if only a couple bucks at a time. Every little bit helps! :TU:

    I'm past due.
I donated some cash Sept. 2002, and intended to make another donation Sept. of this year.
    Here it is November already.
I'll make a donation at the same time I pay my BPG dues which are coming up shortly.

    PS.
My name was never added to the contributers list, but that's not a big deal, since I didn't donate for the sake of notoriety.

  17. Ya, it had been about a year for me too, which is what prompted me to look at the contributor list, and send in another donation. Jim has said that he needs to update the list too, so he is aware of it. BTW, thanks again for letting me borrow your new Hemmings mag, did it get back to you yet? I stopped by B. Dalton yesterday, and sure enough, they have it there, so I paid the $3.99 cover price to have my own copy. Gotta get signed up for that $1 sub rate!
